The third round of the 2026/27 English Premier League campaign continues on Saturday the 5th of September with several interesting fixtures taking place. The 3 that have caught our eye see Brentford welcome Sunderland, Manchester City host Coventry City, while Hull City meet Aston Villa. We cover all three matches from a betting angle below.

Outright Betting Update

Let’s start with a look at the Outright Betting where defending champions Arsenal are favourites to retain the Premier League title at 1.85 with Manchester City their closest challengers at 4.50. Chelsea trade at 6.50 while Liverpool and Manchester United are available at 15.00.

SATURDAY:

BRENTFORD vs SUNDERLAND

Brentford have collected 4 points from their opening two matches and occupy 5th position on the table. They launched their campaign with an impressive 3-0 home victory over Tottenham before travelling to Leeds United.

The side were unable to repeat that dominant performance but remained unbeaten after earning a 1-1 draw on the road.

Sunderland responded strongly after beginning the season with a 2-1 defeat away to Ipswich Town. They returned home to face Fulham in their second fixture and claimed their first points of the campaign through a narrow 1-0 victory.

That result moved Sunderland into 11th position with 3 points, although they now face a Brentford side that has yet to taste defeat.

Head-to-Head:

Brentford have won three of the previous six meetings between the teams, while Sunderland have recorded one victory and the remaining two encounters ended level.

The sides exchanged home victories during the 2025/26 Premier League campaign. Sunderland won the opening meeting 2-1 before Brentford answered with a convincing 3-0 triumph in the return fixture.

Brentford 1.69

Draw 4.00

Sunderland 5.50

Verdict:

Both teams have made encouraging starts, but Brentford’s unbeaten form and impressive opening home performance give them the advantage. The Bees also comfortably defeated Sunderland at this venue last season and should be capable of collecting all three points as rightful favourites. To boost the price I am backing them to win in a game with 3 goals or more in total.

BET: Match result and over 2.5 goals, Brentford and YES at 2.45

MANCHESTER CITY vs COVENTRY CITY

Manchester City sit at the top of the Premier League standings after winning both of their opening fixtures. They began with a testing 2-1 home victory over Bournemouth before producing a more convincing performance away to Crystal Palace.

City found the back of the net four times in a dominant 4-1 triumph at Selhurst Park, taking their tally to six goals from two matches.

Coventry City remain without a point or a goal following a difficult introduction to the new season. Their opening assignment took them to defending champions Arsenal, where they suffered a 3-0 defeat.

Coventry then welcomed fellow promoted side Hull City but were beaten 1-0 on home soil. Those results leave them 17th on the table after conceding four goals across their first two appearances.

Head-to-Head:

The previous six meetings are evenly balanced, with both sides recording two victories alongside two draws. However, the most recent encounter took place in 2002 when Manchester City claimed a 4-2 Championship victory.

Manchester City 1.18

Draw 8.50

Coventry City 14.00

Verdict:

Manchester City have started the campaign in excellent attacking form, while Coventry have lost both matches without scoring. The hosts should dominate this fixture, and I believe they will win while holding firm at the back.

BET: Result and Both Teams to Score – Manchester City and No at 2.10

HULL CITY vs ASTON VILLA

Hull City have been one of the early surprises of the new campaign, winning both matches without conceding a goal. They opened the season with an excellent 2-0 home victory over Manchester United before facing Coventry City on the road.

Hull followed that result with a disciplined 1-0 win and consequently occupy 3rd position with 6 points.

Aston Villa travel to the MKM Stadium still searching for their first points and first goal of the campaign. Villa were heavily beaten 4-0 away to Brighton in their opening fixture before returning home to meet Arsenal.

Their performance improved considerably against the defending champions, although they ultimately suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat. Villa now sit 19th after losing their first two matches by an aggregate score of 5-0.

Head-to-Head:

Aston Villa have won two of the last six encounters between the sides, with Hull City claiming one victory and three matches ending in draws.

The teams last met during the 2018/19 Championship season. Villa won 3-1 at the MKM Stadium before the reverse fixture finished in a 2-2 draw. Notably both sides have scored in four of the previous six meetings.

Hull City 4.25

Draw 3.75

Aston Villa 1.91

Verdict:

Aston Villa are favourites despite their poor opening results, but Hull have won both matches without conceding and already defeated Manchester United at home. With Villa slowly finding their form again and Hull City looking impressive so far, I am backing the draw and believe it will be a competitive encounter.

BET: Draw at 3.75
