English Premier League champions Arsenal meet FA Cup holders Manchester City in the annual FA Community Shield on Sunday, with the game taking place at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.
The FA Community Shield is contested by the winners of the English Premier League and the FA Cup and is the traditional curtain-raiser to the English football season.
Arsenal come into the contest as reigning English Premier League champions. They have played several warm-up games, with mixed results. They beat Como 2-1 earlier this week but have also suffered defeats against Dortmund and Betis.
We cannot read too much into those results, but it is interesting that goals have flowed in Arsenal’s matches. All four of their friendly fixtures have seen both teams find the net and at least three goals scored.
Manchester City were disappointed to lose out to Arsenal in the league last season, but they did win the FA Cup. They have also played several warm-up matches and recorded a 3-1 victory over Atletico Madrid last weekend.
Head-to-Head
Manchester City beat Arsenal 2-1 at home in the league last season, while the reverse fixture finished 1-1 at the Emirates Stadium.
City also defeated Arsenal 2-0 in the EFL Cup in March this year.
FA Community Shield recent history
The last three FA Community Shields have been decided on penalties.
Arsenal beat Manchester City on penalties in 2023, while City overcame Manchester United in the 2024 edition. Last season, Crystal Palace pulled off an upset by defeating Liverpool in a penalty shootout.

Arsenal: 2.60
Draw: 3.40
Manchester City: 2.75
This promises to be a competitive matchup, and I expect it to be an entertaining one as well.
Here are a few betting angles I like:
- Draw at 3.40
- Total goals over 2.5 at 1.87
- Correct score: Arsenal 2-2 Manchester City at 15.00
- Match result and both teams to score: Draw and Yes at 4.25
I am going to keep things simple and back the draw at 3.40, with a smaller play on the 2-2 correct score at 15.00.
Suggested bets:
- Draw at 3.40
- Arsenal 2-2 Manchester City at 15.00
