MTN 8 Cup Quarter-Finals Betting Preview

The MTN 8 Cup gets underway this weekend with four quarter-final clashes featuring the biggest teams in South African football. Orlando Pirates face Durban City, Mamelodi Sundowns host Polokwane City, AmaZulu take on Sekhukhune and Kaizer Chiefs meet Golden Arrows. We take a closer look at all four encounters from a betting angle below.

SATURDAY:

Orlando Pirates vs Durban City – click here to bet

Orlando Pirates won the Premiership title last season and started the new Premiership campaign with a dominant 2-0 win over Milford roughly a week ago to indicate the form they will carry into this tournament as defending champions. Pirates are defending their title having beaten Stellenbosch in last years final.

Durban City finished 8th last season in the PSL and began their 2026/27 league run with a 1-0 defeat to Sekhukhune after conceding in the 27th minute and being unable to break even.

Head-to-Head:

Orlando Pirates have the edge in this fixture with 3 wins, 2 draws and only 1 defeat in the last six meetings. They won 2-0 away from home last season, while the return fixture ended in a goalless draw.

Odds: Orlando Pirates 1.25 | Draw 5.75 | Durban City 11.00

Verdict:

Pirates hold the historical advantage in this matchup and arrive with stronger form and greater attacking quality. Durban City have struggled in front of goal recently and may find it difficult to break down the champions in what I believe will be a relatively tight clash.

Bet: Orlando Pirates to Win and Under 3.5 Goals at 2.20

Mamelodi Sundowns vs Polokwane City – click here to bet

Mamelodi Sundowns finished 2nd in the Premiership last season and in the 2025 MTN 8 Cup they went down on penalties to eventual winners Pirates in the semi-finals. Their recent results have come against quality international opposition and they are still to play their 1st PSL match.

Polokwane City arrive after a solid league campaign and made a positive start to the new season with a 2-1 away win over Richards Bay. They will take confidence from that performance but face a much tougher test against Sundowns.

Head-to-Head:

Sundowns have won 4 of the last 6 meetings, with 1 draw and 1 defeat. They completed a league double over Polokwane City last season, winning 1-0 away and 3-0 at home.

Odds: Mamelodi Sundowns 1.33 | Draw 5.00 | Polokwane City 10.00

Verdict:

Sundowns have consistently enjoyed this fixture, and their superior squad depth should prove decisive. Their home record against Polokwane has been particularly strong in recent seasons and after winning their last three games in a row against Polokwane they look set to increase that tally comfortably.

Bet: Result and Both Teams to Score – Mamelodi Sundowns and No at 1.93

SUNDAY:

AmaZulu vs Sekhukhune – click here to bet

AmaZulu finished 4th in the Premiership last season and have started the fresh campaign strongly with a 1-0 victory over Stellenbosch when they met last weekend. Their recent defensive form has been particularly impressive, and they will look to carry that into this cup tie.

Sekhukhune ended last season in 5th place and opened the new league season with a disciplined 1-0 win over Durban City. They remain a well organised side with a strong defensive structure and will be confident of competing for a place in the semi-finals as they did in 2025 before losing to Stellenbosch.

Head-to-Head:

The last six meetings have been evenly balanced with 2 wins each and 2 draws. Both league meetings last season ended level, with a 1-1 draw in Polokwane and a 2-2 draw on Sekhukhune soil.

Odds: AmaZulu 2.50 | Draw 3.00 | Sekhukhune 3.00

Verdict:

This looks the most evenly matched quarter-final on the schedule. Both teams arrive in good defensive form, and recent meetings suggest another closely contested encounter, so I am looking towards the unders market here and either a 0-0 or 1-1 scoreline.

Bet: Draw and Under 2.5 Goals at 3.50

Kaizer Chiefs vs Golden Arrows – click here to bet

Kaizer Chiefs finished 3rd in the Premiership last season and began the 2026 Premiership with an impressive 3-1 away victory over Kruger United. They ended last season in strong form and will be aiming to bring that flair into the MTN 8 which they failed to qualify for in 2025.

Golden Arrows come into the Cup after finishing inside the top eight last season. Their latest action came on Saturday where they clashed with Chippa United, and the game ended without a goal scored.

Head-to-Head:

The last six meetings have been split evenly with 3 wins each. Chiefs won both league meetings last season by 1-0 scorelines.

Odds: Kaizer Chiefs 1.47 | Draw 4.00 | Golden Arrows 7.50

Verdict:

Chiefs have won the last two meetings and arrive with stronger momentum after their opening round victory in the league. Golden Arrows are capable of frustrating opponents, but Chiefs should have enough quality to progress in what I think will be an exciting game.

Bet: Kaizer Chiefs to Win and Over 2.5 Goals at 2.75
