The Currie Cup rolls on into Round four this weekend, with all four fixtures spread across Saturday and Sunday. After this round we will be past the halfway mark of the pool stages, and the standings are starting to take real shape, with the Griquas, Cheetahs, Lions and Stormers XXIII all looking well placed to push for the semi-finals. Plenty to unpack across the weekend and plenty of value to be found across the markets.
SATURDAY
Griquas v Lions — Click here to bet
The Griquas are coming off the back of a solid win against the Cheetahs last weekend as they held out in the final minutes to win the match 24-21 at home. This was their second win from three matches with the other win coming against the Bulls in round 2, 56-26, and the loss coming against the Stormers, 25-19, away in round one.
The Lions are also coming into the game off the back of two wins and a loss in the first round. Their win last weekend was against the Bulls at home where they won 42-19.
Head-to-Head
The Griquas have won two of the last five against the Lions, including the most recent fixture where they beat the Lions 25-27 in Johannesburg last year. The last time the sides met in Kimberley, the Lions won 36-28, back in 2014.
Betting and Verdict
The Griquas are favourites at 1.80 while the Lions are trading at 2.15 with the draw priced at 31.00. The handicap is Griquas -1.5 at 1.93.
The Griquas have won their last eight matches at home in the Currie Cup, a run spanning back to 2024. Although the Lions are looking strong this season, we can’t see them ending that streak in Kimberley this weekend, and we back the Griquas to take the outright win at a very fair price.

Bulls XV v Pumas — Click here to bet
The Bulls will be looking for their first win of the tournament after three straight losses. They played the Lions last weekend away from home and lost the match 42-19.
The Pumas, after two opening-round losses in rounds one and two, pulled off a brilliant upset last weekend as they beat Boland 20-15 away from home.
Head-to-Head
The Bulls have won three of the last five matches against the Pumas although the last time the two sides met in Pretoria, the Pumas won the game 41-7. This was also the most recent fixture between the two sides.
Betting and Verdict
The bookies have the Bulls at 3.15 while the Pumas are trading at 1.47 and the draw priced at 23.00. The handicap is Pumas -5.5.
The Bulls still look like they are struggling badly, while the Pumas are coming into this game off the back of a very impressive win. We also saw what the Pumas were able to do in Pretoria last year when they ran out 41-7 winners, and for that reason we think they will cover the handicap this weekend without too much fuss.

Sharks v Boland — Click here to bet
After a solid win in Round one against the Pumas, the Sharks have dropped off in form, losing their next two. They played the Stormers XXIII in Cape Town last weekend and lost the match 36-28.
Boland started the season strong, winning their first two, but fell short against the Pumas at home last weekend as they lost 15-20.
Head-to-Head
Boland have only been able to beat the Sharks in one of the last five matches between the two sides. The most recent fixture saw the two sides meet in Durban last year where the Sharks won the match 33-31.
Betting and Verdict
The Sharks are at 1.65 while Boland are at 2.45 with the draw trading at 26.00. The handicap is Sharks -2.5.
Both teams are coming off the back of a loss going into this weekend and will be looking to bounce back straight away. Looking at Boland’s results last year, they were only able to win one match away from home the entire season, and so we think the Sharks should be able to win and cover the small handicap in Durban.

The Stormers XXIII have had a decent start to their season, winning two of their three matches. They hosted the Sharks last weekend and won the match 36-28.
The Cheetahs have also had a solid start, winning their first two before just falling short against the Griquas last weekend, losing 24-21 with an opportunity to win the game in the final minutes.

The Cheetahs have dominated this fixture in recent years, winning all of the last five matches between the sides. Last year’s Currie Cup fixture saw them win 31-24 in Bloemfontein, while the 2024 fixture in Cape Town saw them win 26-19.
Betting and Verdict
The Cheetahs are favourites and are trading at 1.36 for the win while the Stormers XXIII are trading at 3.65. The handicap is Cheetahs -6.5.
The Cheetahs have looked extremely strong this season, and although they are coming off the back of a loss, they were nearly able to end the Griquas’ eight-game home winning streak last time out. Combined with a fantastic H2H record against the Stormers XXIII, we think the Cheetahs will be able to win and cover the handicap this weekend.
