Canada vs Bosnia & Herzegovina
Canada enter this World Cup as co-hosts having avoided the qualifying process, but they have put together a solid unbeaten run in recent months during International Friendlies. The Canadians have shown defensive stability having kept clean sheets against Uzbekistan, Tunisia, Guatemala, Venezuela and Ecuador while remaining without a loss across their last eight matches.
Their latest outing ended in a 1-1 draw against Ireland after their comfortable 2-0 victory over Uzbekistan and they will arrive with confidence in their ability to start the tournament on a high.
Bosnia & Herzegovina arrive in encouraging form themselves and have proven difficult to beat. The Europeans are unbeaten in their last eight matches as well and have produced some eye catching results including 2-1 victories over Italy and Wales earlier this year.
They drew 1-1 with Panama in their most recent fixture after a goalless stalemate against North Macedonia despite heading into both clashes as slight favourites.

Verdict
Canada have been difficult to break down and should enjoy strong support in what is effectively a home World Cup environment. Bosnia & Herzegovina have also been impressive recently and many of their best results came as underdogs where they could play on the counterattack.

USA vs Paraguay
USA begin their World Cup campaign carrying mixed recent form but remain a dangerous side on home soil. The squad have experienced some defensive struggles against elite opposition yet continue to look good upfront.
Their latest match concluded in a 2-1 defeat to Germany after a thrilling 3-2 victory over Senegal. Earlier this year they suffered heavy losses to Portugal and Belgium but had previously produced an outstanding 5-1 win over Uruguay after defeating Paraguay 2-1 in a friendly.
Paraguay will be eager for their opener this weekend following several impressive performances over the last year. The South Americans have won four of their previous eight matches and have shown an ability to compete against strong international opposition.
They head into this encounter following a dominant 4-0 victory over Nicaragua (who for context drew 0-0 to South Africa) while prior to that they defeated Greece and Mexico while also earning a valuable away win against Peru. Their only recent defeats came against Morocco, South Korea and the USA.

The USA have won four of the last six meetings between the nations including a 2-1 victory in their most recent encounter in November 2025 and they also picked up 1-0 triumphs in two meetings between the teams before that with Paraguay’s most recent win coming in a 2011 friendly where they scored the only goal of the match.

Verdict
USA have not always looked convincing defensively, but they possess quality throughout the squad and should benefit from home support. Paraguay are organised and dangerous in front of goal, however, the Americans have already beaten them recently and generally enjoy success in this fixture. I am expecting USA to come out with a narrow victory in what should be an entertaining game.
