The FIFA World Cup quarterfinals near their conclusion on Saturday as surprise package Norway take on England for a place in the semifinals. Norway have continued to exceed expectations after eliminating one of the tournament favourites while England have built momentum with another composed knockout campaign. We take a look at the match from a betting angle.
Norway vs England
Norway have enjoyed a superb World Cup campaign after progressing from a difficult group before producing two outstanding knockout victories. They opened their tournament with an impressive 4-1 victory over Iraq before edging Senegal 3-2 in an entertaining contest. A heavy 4-1 defeat to France in their final group fixture meant Norway finished second in the group, having collected six points from their three matches.
Their Round of 32 encounter against Ivory Coast reflected another determined display. Norway battled hard throughout the contest and secured a tight 2-1 victory to advance to the last 16 after producing another respectable performance.
Norway produced one of the biggest upsets of the tournament in the Round of 16 against Brazil. After a goalless first half, Erling Haaland broke the deadlock in the 79th minute before striking again in the 90th minute to put his side up 2-0. Neymar then pulled one back from the penalty spot deep into stoppage time but Brazil were out of chances and Norway progressed in dramatic fashion.
England have steadily grown into the tournament after moving through the group stage unbeaten before recording two impressive knockout victories. They began with an entertaining 4-2 victory over Croatia before being held to a goalless draw against Ghana. Despite this, England responded with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Panama to finish top of their group on seven points.
Their Round of 32 clash against D.R. Congo was a competitive affair. England showed their quality when it mattered most scoring two late goals and claiming a 2-1 victory to progress safely into the Round of 16.
England carried that momentum into the Round of 16 against Mexico. Jude Bellingham gave England the lead in the 36th minute before doubling England’s lead just two minutes later. Julian Quinones pulled one back before the interval, while Harry Kane restored England’s breathing room from the penalty spot 15 minutes after the restart. Raul Jimenez produced a late penalty goal for Mexico but England held on for an entertaining 3-2 victory to reach the quarterfinals.
Head-to-Head
England hold the slight advantage in the recent meetings between the two nations, recording two victories, three draws and one defeat across the previous six encounters. Their most recent meeting came in an international friendly in 2014 where England secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Norway.

Verdict
Norway have been one of the stories of the tournament, showing tremendous character to eliminate Brazil and proving they can compete with the world’s elite. England have looked increasingly convincing with every match and possess the attacking quality to trouble the opposing defensive line. With Norway carrying confidence and England continuing to improve, this shapes up as another fascinating quarterfinal that could easily require extra time to separate the two sides after an intense fixture.
