Group F reaches its conclusion on Friday morning South African time with both fixtures kicking off at 01:00. Japan take on Sweden, while Tunisia face the Netherlands and we look at both matches from a betting perspective below.

Group F Update

Netherlands and Japan occupy first and second place in the group respectively, with both nations sitting on four points after their opening two matches.

The Dutch currently lead the standings on goals scored after netting seven times, while Japan have also impressed with six goals from their first two fixtures.

Sweden remain firmly in contention on three points and know that victory over Japan would guarantee qualification to the Round of 32.

Japan have likely done enough to progress, although they will be targeting all three points to potentially finish top of the group.

The Netherlands are in the strongest position and know that a win against already eliminated Tunisia would likely secure first place.

Tunisia have lost both matches and have already been knocked out of the tournament.

Japan vs Sweden

Japan have enjoyed an excellent tournament so far and remain unbeaten after their opening two fixtures. They began with an entertaining 2-2 draw against the Netherlands before producing one of the standout performances of the second round by defeating Tunisia 4-0.

Daichi Kamada, Ayase Ueda and Junya Ito were all on target as Japan moved onto four points.

Sweden made a flying start to the competition with an emphatic 5-1 victory over Tunisia. However, they were brought back down to earth in their second outing after suffering a heavy 5-1 defeat against Netherlands.

Anthony Elanga scored Sweden’s only goal as defensive shortcomings were exposed throughout the contest after conceding 2 in the first half and 3 in the second.

Head-to-Head

Sweden have the edge in previous meetings between the nations, remaining unbeaten across four encounters with one victory and three draws. Their most recent clash ended in a 1-1 draw during an International Friendly in 2002.

Verdict

Japan have looked the more balanced side throughout the tournament and arrive full of confidence after their commanding victory over Tunisia. Sweden showed their attacking quality in the opening round but were comfortably outplayed by the Netherlands and may struggle against another technically gifted opponent. Japan’s defensive structure has also been far stronger through two matches, and I am backing them to pull off the win on Friday.

BET: Japan to Win at 1.95

Tunisia vs Netherlands

Tunisia have endured a difficult World Cup campaign and have already been eliminated after consecutive heavy defeats. They opened with a 5-1 loss against Sweden before being comprehensively beaten 4-0 by Japan in Round 2.

The North Africans have conceded nine goals across their two matches and have found life extremely difficult against quality opposition leaving this match as a pure test of the sides ability to show improvement.

Netherlands remain unbeaten and sit top of the group heading into the final round. They opened with a 2-2 draw against Japan before delivering a dominant display against Sweden, running out convincing winners by a 4 goal margin.

Brian Brobbey scored twice while Cody Gakpo also bagged two as the Dutch underlined their attacking credentials with a further goal from Crysencio Summerville to seal the deal in the 89th minute.

Head-to-Head

The previous two meetings between these nations both ended level. Tunisia and Netherlands played out a 1-1 draw in 2009 after previously sharing a 2-2 draw in 1994.

Verdict

Netherlands have been one of the most dangerous attacking sides in the tournament and now face a Tunisia side that has conceded nine goals in two matches. With top spot still at stake, the Dutch outfit should remain focused and their creativity across the pitch is likely to prove overwhelming in what concludes in a high scoring affair once again.

BET: Result and Totals – Netherlands and Over 3.5 Goals at 2.35
