English Premier League Betting Preview – Saturday 24th October

The English Premier League continues on Saturday the 24th of October and our 3 fixtures to bet on sees Manchester City travelling to Aston Villa, Arsenal hosting Everton and Chelsea welcoming Tottenham Hotspur to Stamford Bridge.

Outright Betting Update

Arsenal are favourites to win the EPL title at 1.50, with Manchester City next in the betting at 4.50, followed by Chelsea at 11.00.  You can get 15.00 and better the balance and there are plenty of other long term markets on offer.

ASTON VILLA vs MANCHESTER CITY

Aston Villa have started to recover from a difficult opening to the season, collecting seven points from their last three league fixtures. A 1-0 victory away to Newcastle United in their latest appearance lifted them to 12th position overall with 8 points from seven matches.

Villa had previously shared a 2-2 draw with Brentford after beating Tottenham 3-2 away from home. Those results followed a 1-2 home defeat against Nottingham Forest and a goalless draw against Hull City.

Manchester City maintained their flawless league record by edging Ipswich Town 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. With seven victories from seven matches, the leaders have collected 21 points and scored 19 goals while conceding 7.

Their strongest recent statement came at Anfield, where they defeated Liverpool 3-0. City also overcame Sunderland 5-3, while narrow 1-0 victories against Manchester United and Coventry City demonstrated their ability to get the job done in tighter encounters.

Head-to-Head:

Aston Villa completed the league double over Manchester City last season, winning 1-0 at Villa Park before securing a 2-1 victory at the Etihad Stadium in May.

Villa have won four of the last six league meetings between the clubs, including each of the previous three played at Villa Park.

Aston Villa 4.75
Draw 4.25
Manchester City 1.69

Verdict:

Villa’s recent form and excellent home record in this fixture make this an interesting test for the league leaders. Their victories at Tottenham and Newcastle show they can trouble strong opposition, and City will need to improve on the defensive performance they produced against Ipswich.

However, the visitors have already won against Manchester United and Liverpool this season without conceding. Those results carry considerable weight when assessing their chances of handling another demanding away assignment.

Villa should make a contest of it but City’s greater attacking threat and consistent ability to find a winning performance earn them my selection and I am backing them to extend their winning start in a low scoring clash.

BET: Result and Totals – Manchester City and Under 4.5 Goals at 2.20

ARSENAL vs EVERTON

Arsenal kept the pressure on Manchester City with a 1-0 victory away to Nottingham Forest last weekend. That success moved them to 18 points from seven fixtures, leaving them second on the table, three points behind the leaders.

The Gunners have responded to their 3-0 defeat to Brighton a few weeks back with consecutive wins, having beaten Leeds United 2-1 and Nottingham Forest 1-0. Earlier victories over Sunderland and Chelsea both yielded three points, with Arsenal winning 2-0 away to Sunderland and edging Chelsea 2-1 at home.

Everton suffered their first league defeat of the campaign when Chelsea beat them 2-0 in their latest trip to the pitch. Despite that setback, the side sit 8th with 10 points, having won twice and drawn four of their seven fixtures.

Their recent results reflect a side that has generally been competitive without turning enough draws into victories. Everton drew 2-2 away to Hull City after defeating Ipswich Town 1-0, while earlier matches resulted in a goalless stalemate at Tottenham and a 2-2 home draw against Manchester United.

Head-to-Head:

Arsenal took maximum points from both league meetings last season, following a 1-0 away victory in December with a 2-0 win at the Emirates Stadium in March.

Everton are winless in the last six encounters between the sides. Arsenal have recorded four victories during that sequence, with the other two matches ending level.

Arsenal 1.44
Draw 4.75
Everton 7.50

Verdict:

Everton’s four draws suggest they could make Arsenal work for the points. They have already held out Manchester United and Tottenham this season, so the hosts cannot afford to approach this as a straightforward assignment.

Nevertheless, Arsenal have won six of their seven league matches and recovered well from their shocking Brighton defeat. Their recent record against Everton also provides reassurance, particularly after winning both of last season’s meetings without conceding.

I expect Arsenal to control enough of the contest to break Everton’s resistance and collect another three points without conceding.

CHELSEA vs TOTTENHAM

Chelsea appear to have found their rhythm after a frustrating September, following a 5-1 home victory over Bournemouth with a 2-0 success away to Everton. Seven goals scored and only one conceded across those two matches have helped them climb to 4th position with 13 points from seven games played.

The improvement came after a three match spell that produced just one point. Chelsea lost 2-1 at Arsenal, drew 2-2 with Hull City and were beaten 3-0 away to Brentford.

Tottenham Hotspur finally claimed their first league victory of the season on Monday, beating Coventry City 3-1 at home. That result moved Spurs to 16th position with six points from seven matches and gives them something to build on ahead of this London derby.

Before overcoming Coventry, Tottenham earned a 1-1 draw against Manchester United following a 3-2 home defeat against Aston Villa. They also played out successive goalless draws against Nottingham Forest and Everton, with a lack of attacking output contributing to their slow start.

Head-to-Head:

Chelsea won both Premier League meetings last season, claiming a 1-0 away victory before beating Tottenham 2-1 at Stamford Bridge in May. Notably they have won each of the last five league encounters between the clubs.

Spurs did secure a 2-1 victory in a pre-season friendly in August, although their recent competitive record in this fixture strongly favours Chelsea.

Chelsea 1.71
Draw 4.25
Tottenham Hotspur 4.75

Verdict:

Tottenham should arrive with renewed confidence after ending their wait for a league win. Their draw at Manchester United also suggests they are capable of remaining competitive away from home, but this represents a tougher examination than Monday’s meeting with Coventry.

Chelsea have looked considerably sharper in their last two league outings, combining a convincing attacking display against Bournemouth with a controlled win at Everton. That recent balance makes them appealing against a Spurs side still trying to establish consistency.

With home advantage and five consecutive league victories over these opponents, Chelsea have several factors in their favour. I am backing them to maintain their momentum and make it three league wins in a row.

BET: Chelsea to Win at 1.71
