Round 17 of the Vodacom United Rugby Championship sees all four South African sides in action across Friday and Saturday and we have a closer look at all 4 matches from a betting angle.
FRIDAY
Ulster v Stormers — Click here to bet
Ulster’s URC form has been poor, they lost 14-41 at Munster and 21-29 at home to Leinster in their last two league outings, though they beat Exeter Chiefs 29-12 in the Challenge Cup last weekend to book their place in the final. Ulster sit eighth on 47 points, just inside the cut line for the playoffs.
The Stormers arrive in Belfast as League leaders but with a mixed bag of recent form. They hammered Glasgow Warriors 48-12 at home in their most recent URC outing but lost 24-33 to Connacht at home the week before and exited the Champions Cup with a heartbreaking 27-28 defeat away at Toulon.
Head-to-Head
The home side has won every one of the last five meetings in this fixture. Ulster won 38-34 in March 2025 and thrashed the Stormers 35-5 at home in January 2023. The Stormers three wins all came in Cape Town, 13-7 in March 2024, 17-15 in June 2022, and 23-20 in March 2022.
Betting and Verdict
Ulster are trading at 2.50, the Stormers 1.65 and the draw 21.00.
The handicap is Stormers -3.5.
The Stormers quality makes them deserved favourites, but the H2H home dominance in this fixture is impossible to ignore. Ulster have won both meetings in Belfast in recent years and will be desperate for points in their playoff push. A 3.5-point start looks like excellent insurance.
Suggested Bet: Handicap, Ulster [+3.5] at 1.83.

SATURDAY
Vodacom Bulls v Zebre — Click here to bet
The Bulls are currently sitting 7th on the table and will need a strong finish to ensure they secure their playoff spot. Their recent form has been strong, with away wins at the Scarlets 23-21 and Dragons 47-7 and a 34-31 home victory over Munster, though they fell 21-25 at Glasgow in the Champions Cup quarter-finals.
Zebre are rooted to the bottom on 15 points and have lost four of their last five, their only win a 31-15 Challenge Cup victory away at Section Paloise.
Head-to-Head
The Bulls have won all four of the last meetings and the margins have been large, 63-24 at home in March 2025, 54-29 away in November 2023, 78-12 at home in April 2023, and 45-7 away in February 2022. The Bulls have covered 29.5 in every single encounter.
Betting and Verdict
The Bulls are trading at 1.01, Zebre 23.00 and the draw 76.00.
The handicap is Bulls −29.5.
Despite the massive spread, the H2H record is emphatic. The Bulls have won by an average of 42 points across the last four meetings and with their playoff hopes on the line at Loftus, they will be relentless.
Suggested Bet: Handicap, Bulls [−29.5] at 1.91.
Sharks v Benetton — Click here to bet
The Sharks season has nosedived at the worst possible time. They have lost three straight, 28-33 at Edinburgh, 17-21 at the Ospreys, and 12-29 at Connacht in the Challenge Cup, and sit 10th on 36 points and they cannot make the playoffs.
Benetton produced the result of the round last time out, stunning Leinster 29-26 at home, but either side of that they were thumped 15-45 by Munster at home and lost a wild 41-44 contest against Exeter in the Challenge Cup.
Head-to-Head
Benetton have won the last two meetings, 38-10 at home in October 2024 and a remarkable 25-24 victory at Kings Park in May 2024. Before that, the Sharks won 43-33 at home in April 2023 and 29-7 away in February 2022.
Betting and Verdict
The bookies have the Sharks at 1.12, Benetton at 7.50 and the draw at 36.00.
The handicap is Sharks −14.5.
The Sharks should have too much firepower at home, but they are inconsistent and Benetton proved they can win at Kings Park with that 25-24 triumph in 2024. A side that beat Leinster last time out should not be taken lightly. 14.5 looks a generous start.
Suggested Bet: Handicap, Benetton [+14.5] at 1.83.
Leinster v Lions — Click here to bet
This is the match of the round. Leinster and the Lions are level on 53 points, and this result could define their playoff seeding.
Leinster beat Toulon 29-25 in last weekend’s Champions Cup semi-final, but their URC form has wobbled, they lost 26-29 away at Benetton in their last league outing.
The Lions have been devastating, winning five in a row,33-21 over Connacht, 54-12 against Glasgow, 42-26 over the Dragons, 54-17 against Edinburgh, and 24-10 over the Stormers all at home.
They now need to perform on the road.
Head-to-Head
Leinster have won three of the last four meetings, including 24-6 at home in October 2024 and 39-36 away from home in April 2023. The Lions only win was emphatic, 44-12 at Ellis Park in April 2024.
Betting and Verdict
Leinster are at 1.20, the Lions 5.25 and the draw is currently at 41.00.
The handicap is Leinster −10.5.
With both sides on 53 points, the Lions have everything to play for and will not go quietly. Their five-match winning run has been formidable and while those victories all came at home, this is not a side that will be blown away. Expect a tight contest, especially if as I think is likely, Leinster rest a few front line players.
Suggested Bet: Handicap, Lions [+10.5] at 1.91
