The Presidents Cup returns this week as the United States take on the Internationals at Medinah Country Club from 24-27 September, with captains Brandt Snedeker and Geoff Ogilvy leading their respective sides into battle.
Snedeker’s USA team is packed with star power, headlined by Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa, with 21-year-old rookie Jackson Koivun added as a bold wildcard pick after his breakthrough win at the 3M Open.
Ogilvy’s International side counts on the experience of Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama, along with the likes of Ryan Fox, Min Woo Lee and Tom Kim, as they look to end the USA’s long stranglehold on this event.
The Americans have won eleven of the previous twelve editions, and the bookies clearly expect more of the same this week. There were some notable names left out when the rosters were finalised too, with Ryan Gerard controversially overlooked by the USA despite a stellar season, while former major champion Jason Day was a surprise omission from the International side. With a rejuvenated venue and two well-balanced squads, though, there is still every reason to expect a genuinely competitive week of golf at Medinah.
Course
Medinah Country Club’s Course No. 3 is one of the great championship venues in American golf, having hosted three U.S. Opens, two PGA Championships and the unforgettable 2012 Ryder Cup, where Europe produced their famous final-day comeback to retain the trophy. The course was redesigned by OCM in 2024, with the renovation bringing larger greens, bigger bunkers and wider fairways, along with more open vistas and broad areas of long fescue rough. It now plays as a par 72 of 7,564 yards (6916 meters) .
With its length and typically firm, fast conditions, Medinah tends to reward big hitters who can control their ball flight into large, undulating greens. The redesigned fairways should offer a touch more room off the tee than in previous editions, but the thick fescue rough will still severely punish anything wayward. Home advantage and course familiarity could matter here too, with several members of the American team having played collegiate or professional events in the Chicago area. Medinah has a rich history of producing drama on the biggest stage, most famously in 2012 when Europe stormed back from four points down on the final day of the Ryder Cup to snatch the trophy, and there will be hopes of more twists and turns over the closing holes this time around.

It is little surprise to see the USA installed as such heavy favourites at 1.20, given their dominant recent record and the sheer strength of Snedeker’s twelve-man roster from top to bottom. The Internationals drift out to 5.00 to cause an upset, while a draw, which under the event’s rules would see the trophy shared between the two teams, is priced up at 15.00.
History suggests backing the Internationals outright is a tough ask, but with a settled team spirit under Ogilvy and a number of in-form players heading into Medinah, there could still be value to be found in the individual markets.

Justin Thomas Top American Wildcard at 4.75
Match play is notoriously difficult to predict, but Thomas has repeatedly produced his best golf in team competition. He owns an excellent 10-3-2 Presidents Cup record and has also compiled a strong Ryder Cup record, giving him considerably more experience in this format than several of Snedeker’s other captain’s picks.
His 2026 season has been interrupted by back surgery and his recent withdrawal from the Biltmore Championship means he arrives without a competitive start since the BMW Championship. That is a legitimate concern, although his T4 at the PGA Championship and T16 at the BMW Championship showed that his best golf remains competitive. With Thomas likely to be trusted across several sessions, his combination of opportunity and proven match-play temperament makes him the preferred option among the American wildcards.

Adam Scott Top International Points Scorer at 7.50
Scott arrives at Medinah in excellent form after finishing tied for second at the BMW PGA Championship, only two shots behind J.J. Spaun. Ryan Fox was the only other International player in the Wentworth field and also impressed by finishing tied for sixth, but Scott’s extensive Presidents Cup experience gives him the edge at the prices.
This will be Scott’s twelfth Presidents Cup appearance, and his experience should make him a central figure in Ogilvy’s pairings. If his strong approach play carries over from Wentworth and he is used in four or five matches, he looks capable of leading the International scoring.
