The PGA Tour heads to Utah this week for the Bank of Utah Championship, the latest stop on the FedEx Cup Fall swing as the 2026 season winds down. Played at Black Desert Resort, the tournament has quickly built a reputation as one of the best birdie-fests on tour, with low scores the norm across the four days.
Last year’s edition produced one of the most remarkable stories of the season when Michael Brennan, playing in his very first PGA start as a professional on a sponsor exemption, went wire-to-wire to win by four shots. With a strong field assembled, including a mix of big names looking to finish the year strongly and journeymen still fighting to secure their PGA Tour cards for 2027, expect another entertaining week of low scoring out in the desert.
Course
Black Desert Golf Course, carved through a field of black lava rock at Black Desert Resort, is a par-71 layout stretching to 7,421 yards (6785 meters), though it plays much shorter than the card suggests thanks to its elevation of around 3,000 feet above sea level and the thin desert air. Wide, sweeping fairways, minimal rough and massive bentgrass greens make it a course built for birdies, with only a couple of water hazards to worry about. It is a highly scoreable layout for players who keep the ball in play, although the surrounding lava fields can severely punish a big miss..

Jackson Koivun heads the betting as the clear favourite of the week off the back of a strong season, with Ben James and defending champion Michael Brennan not too far behind in the market. Maverick McNealy sits in the next tier of contenders, while Marco Penge, Doug Ghim and Matt Wallace make up a trio of each-way options further down the odds who will all fancy their chances of going low around this birdie-friendly layout given their recent form.

SELECTIONS:
Matt Wallace at 26.00
Our first pick of the week is Matt Wallace, and it is all off the back of form. Wallace has put together a solid run of form over the last few weeks and looks very good going into this week.
His last six results read 5th at the Rocket Classic, 7th at the Wyndham Championship, he then jumped across the pond to the DP World Tour where his results were 15th at the British Masters, 9th at the European Masters, 14th at the Irish Open and 10th at the BMW PGA Championship. I think if he can continue this level of form into this week, he stands a great chance of adding another solid finish to that run, and perhaps even going one better.
Suggested bet: Matt Wallace each way at 26.00
Marco Penge at 26.00
Penge is another player who has been jumping back and forth between the PGA Tour and DP World Tour at this tail-end of the season, and he has managed to put together some solid results while doing it.
He comes into this week off the back of a 10th place finish at the Biltmore Championship last weekend on the PGA Tour, and he also finished inside the top 20 at the Omega European Masters earlier in September on the DP World Tour. With his game clearly in good order across both tours right now, I think we could see another solid performance from him this weekend.
Suggested bet: Marco Penge each way at 26.00.
Michael Brennan at 17.00
Brennan enters this week as the defending Champion after winning the tournament last year in remarkable fashion, triumphing in his very first PGA start as a professional on a sponsor exemption to win by four shots at -22.
He has gone on to enjoy a superb rookie season, picking up a second PGA Tour title in August when he won the Wyndham Championship by three shots over Beau Hossler, a result that secured his spot in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Brennan has had time to rest since the end of the playoffs and will be fired up and ready to defend his title this week and having already shown he can win on this course under pressure, he cannot be ruled out of doing it again.
Suggested bet: Michael Brennan each way at 17.00
