Amgen Irish Open 2026 Betting Preview

The DP World Tour rolls on this week with one of the truly special events on the calendar, the Amgen Irish Open at Trump International Golf Links and Hotel in Doonbeg, Ireland.

Rory McIlroy heads the market as the defending Champion and clear home favourite, with Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, Robert MacIntyre, and Joaquin Niemann all in the mix behind him. It is a stacked field for a top venue, and with Ireland always producing some of the most passionate galleries in world golf, we should be in for a fantastic four days on the Atlantic coast.

Course

Trump International Golf Links and Hotel in Doonbeg, County Clare, is one of the most stunning venues on the DP World Tour. Set right on the wild Atlantic coast, this is a proper links layout, weaving its way through some genuinely dramatic sand dunes and offering huge exposure to the elements. The Atlantic wind is almost always a factor here, and the way the course sits along the coast means players can face very different conditions from morning to afternoon rounds. Winning scores have varied dramatically over recent years, from -20 down to just -9, which shows just how much of a role the weather can play.

As with any true links test, driving accuracy and a sharp short game are going to be absolutely crucial this week. Players who can flight the ball low, scramble effectively from the tight lies around the greens, and stay patient through the tougher weather stretches will typically find themselves at the top of the leaderboard. Course experience and a genuine feel for links conditions are also invaluable, which is why the Irish and British contingents so often shine at events like this. Watch out for anyone who ranks highly for Strokes Gained: Around the Green and driving accuracy.

Rory McIlroy heads the market at 7.00 as the defending Champion and the standout name in the field, with the entirety of the Irish crowd behind him this week. Jon Rahm is next in at 11.00, followed by Tyrrell Hatton at 17.00 with Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre and LIV star Joaquin Niemann at 19.00 with Matt Wallace rounding out the top of the boards at 26.00. There is a genuinely top class field this week with plenty of value to be found across the each-way selections.

SELECTIONS:

Rory McIlroy at 7.00

McIlroy returns to defend his title after an astonishing win last year, when he eagled the final hole to make it into a playoff, before going on to win that playoff and clinch his second Irish Open. McIlroy hasn’t had as strong a season this year as last, however, he is coming into this week off the back of two solid finishes on the PGA Tour. He finished third at the BMW Championship and followed that up with a fourth-place finish at the Tour Championship, showing he is very much back on the up as the season closes out. McIlroy will be desperate to defend his title in front of his home fans this weekend, and at 7.00 he looks a very fair price given the home advantage, his course form, and the fact he is coming in playing his best golf in some time.

Suggested bet: Rory McIlroy each way at 7.00.

Matt Wallace at 26.00

Wallace has been on a fine run of form over his last four starts. He started that run with a 5th-place finish at the Rocket Classic, followed by a 7th at the Wyndham Championship. That was the end of his PGA Tour season, but he has comfortably brought that momentum over to the DP World Tour, finishing 15th at the British Masters and 9th at last week’s Omega European Masters. With that kind of consistency across two very different tours, we like Wallace as a strong each-way pick at 26.00.

Suggested bet: Matt Wallace each way at 26.00.

Alex Fitzpatrick at 31.00

Fitzpatrick had a great start to the season before moving over to the PGA Tour, where his momentum continued. He put in a number of solid results and ended up making it all the way to the Tour Championship. What may have been the highlight of his season was his fourth-place finish at the Tour Championship, a great way to close out his PGA Tour season. He now returns to the DP World Tour, where he will look to keep that remarkable season going in front of a big home-continent crowd. We like him as a value each-way pick at 31.00.

Suggested bet: Alex Fitzpatrick each way at 31.00.
