Barcelona have already wrapped up the La Liga title after Real Madrid failed to keep pace, so attention now shifts towards the relegation battle and the race for a top three finish heading into the final weekend of the campaign. We take a look at three important clashes taking place across Saturday and Sunday and suggest a bet in each fixture.
SATURDAY:
Girona vs Elche
Girona sit 18th on the table with 40 points and head into the final round needing a result to avoid relegation. They have struggled badly in recent weeks, failing to win any of their last seven league outings while scoring just six goals in that run.
Their latest fixture ended in a narrow 1-0 defeat away to Atlético Madrid after successive draws against Real Sociedad and Rayo Vallecano.
Elche hold 42 points putting them in 17th overall and avoiding defeat here would secure their topflight status for another season. They have shown signs of improvement recently having picked up two wins, one draw and suffered two defeats in their last five appearances.
Elche come into this clash after a valuable 1-0 victory over Getafe which followed a 2-1 loss against Betis and a 1-1 stalemate with Alaves.
Head-to-Head
Elche won the reverse fixture 3-0 earlier this season, although Girona had previously won three consecutive meetings including victories in both LaLiga and the Copa del Rey.

Girona 1.80
Draw 4.00
Elche 4.25
Verdict
Girona are under enormous pressure heading into this encounter and their recent form has been extremely poor. Elche have looked more organised over the last few weeks and could frustrate a home side who will likely be taking chances up front. I am backing Elche to get the job done and pull clear of the relegation zone.

Mallorca vs Real Oviedo
Mallorca sit 19th on the standings with 39 points and require victory by a huge margin plus other results to go their way if they are to survive. Their recent form has been disappointing with four defeats in their last five league matches.
Mallorca were beaten 2-0 away against Levante in their latest action after also losing 3-1 to Getafe. Before that they drew 1-1 with Villarreal and beat Girona 1-0 on the road.
Oviedo are already relegated after collecting just 29 points from 37 fixtures. They have battled throughout the campaign, managing only 26 goals while conceding 57.
They head into this match after a 1-0 home defeat to Alaves which followed losses against Real Madrid and Betis. Their only somewhat positive came in a goalless draw with Getafe three games ago.
Head-to-Head
In the past not much has separated the teams with four of the last five games ending in draws while the last win came in 2019 where Mallorca beat Oviedo 1-0 at home.

Mallorca 1.47
Draw 4.75
Real Oviedo 7.00
Verdict
Mallorca have struggled recently but this represents a massive opportunity against an already relegated Oviedo side that has offered very little attacking threat throughout the season. Although multiple recent fixtures have ended level, I expect the hosts to come out aggressively from the opening whistle and give themselves an outside chance to remain in La Liga.

SUNDAY:
Villarreal vs Atlético Madrid
Villarreal are on 69 points with one game to play and a third place finish still up for grabs. The side have been entertaining throughout the campaign, producing 67 goals while letting 45 slip at the back.
Despite this they recently suffered back-to-back 2-0 and 2-3 defeats against Rayo Vallecano and Sevilla, but their home form has still been strong overall despite those setbacks.
Atlético Madrid arrive in slightly better form after winning four of their last five league matches and are level on points and goal difference with Villareal.
The team edged Girona 1-0 last time out after also defeating Osasuna 2-1 and Valencia 2-0 away from home although they did lose to Celta Vigo in between those matches.
Head-to-Head
Atlético Madrid won the reverse fixture 2-0 earlier this season while both clashes in the 2024/25 campaign were drawn.

Villarreal 2.45
Draw 3.85
Atlético Madrid 2.70
Verdict
Both sides still have plenty to play for and this should produce an open contest between two attacking minded teams. Villarreal score consistently at home while Atlético have looked dangerous going forward in recent weeks and although the betting odds are slightly against them, I think their top class pedigree will kick in and they will secure 3rd on the log.
BET: Atlético Madrid to Win at 2.70
