Atlético Madrid occupy 4th place on the standings with 60 points from 33 fixtures and remain in the hunt for a strong finish. They have produced 56 goals while conceding 37, underlining their attacking threat but also some defensive vulnerability.
They head into this encounter after a 3-2 home success over Athletic Bilbao, although their recent form has been shaky with four defeats in a row coming before this by a margin of one goal each time.
Atletico were in midweek action at home to Arsenal where they played out a 1-1 draw in their Champions League semi-final 1st leg match.

Atlético Madrid have had the upper hand in this matchup historically and despite their inconsistent run, they still possess greater quality across the pitch. Valencia have shown glimpses of improvement of late but while I understand that Atletico will be focusing on their return match against Arsenal I simply cannot resist them at this price.

Barcelona are well clear in the standings on 85 points from 33 matches and they carry plenty of momentum into this fixture. Their attacking form has been exceptional, registering 87 goals while only 30 have been let through on defence.
They head into this fixture after a 2-0 away win over Getafe, extending an impressive run that also includes victories over Celta Vigo, Espanyol and Atlético Madrid. Notably they have won their last nine games in a row.

Verdict
Real Madrid have consistently had the upper hand in this matchup and should have enough quality to overcome an Espanyol side struggling for form. While Madrid have not been flawless recently, I believe they will get back in the winning column but I also fancy the home team to get on the scoresheet as Real have been leaking a bit of late.
