Brazil vs Norway
Brazil have once again looked like genuine title contenders after progressing comfortably through the group stages before overcoming a stubborn Japan side in the first knockout stage. Their campaign began with a hard fought 1-1 draw against Morocco before they responded in style by defeating Haiti 3-0. A dominant 3-0 victory over Scotland secured top spot in Group C and maintained their unbeaten tournament record.
Their Round of 32 clash against Japan proved to be their toughest test yet. Brazil fell behind in the 29th minute when Kaishu Sano gave Japan the lead, but the South Americans showed their resilience after the break. Casemiro levelled matters in the 56th minute before Gabriel Martinelli struck deep into stoppage time to seal a narrow 2-1 victory and book Brazil’s place in the last 16.
Norway have quietly emerged as one of the tournament’s most dangerous sides after finishing second in Group I before producing an impressive Round of 32 victory over Ivory Coast. They kicked off their World Cup run with a superb 4-1 victory over Iraq and followed that up with an entertaining 3-2 win against Senegal. A heavy 4-1 defeat to France (albeit they were resting players) denied them top spot but they still advanced comfortably.
The team came into the knockout stages with confidence and produced an excellent display against Ivory Coast. Antonio Nusa gave Norway the lead in the 39th minute before Amad Diallo equalised midway through the second half. Just as extra time appeared inevitable, Erling Haaland once again delivered when it mattered most by scoring the winning goal in the 86th minute to send Norway into the quarter-final race.
Head-to-Head
Norway remain unbeaten in the previous two meetings between these nations after defeating Brazil 2-1 at the 1998 FIFA World Cup before earning a 1-1 draw in an International Friendly during 2006.

Brazil 1.93
Draw 3.65
Norway 4.25
Verdict
Norway will be pleased with the way they have performed throughout the tournament and possess enough attacking quality to trouble any defence with Haaland leading the line. However, Brazil continue to find ways to win difficult matches and boast greater experience at this stage of the competition. Their comeback victory over Japan highlighted their championship credentials and I expect them to edge another competitive contest.

Mexico vs England
Mexico have been one of the standout teams of the tournament after producing four consecutive victories to reach the Round of 16 without conceding a single goal. They opened Group A with a professional 2-0 victory over South Africa before following it up with a disciplined 1-0 win against South Korea. A convincing 3-0 triumph over the Czech Republic secured top spot in the group.
Their Round of 32 meeting with Ecuador saw Mexico continue their run of clean sheets while striking twice before half time. Julian Quinones opened the scoring in the 22nd minute before Raul Jimenez doubled the advantage nine minutes later. Mexico comfortably controlled the second-half to complete a composed 2-0 victory and extend their flawless tournament in front of their own supporters.
England have also enjoyed a strong World Cup campaign after topping Group L before overcoming a determined D.R. Congo side in the knockout stages. They began with an entertaining 4-2 victory over Croatia before being held to a goalless draw by Ghana but a fairly comfortable 2-0 win against Panama ensured they advanced unbeaten into the Round of 32.
Their knockout clash proved far more difficult than expected after Brian Cipenga fired D.R. Congo into an early 7th minute lead. England remained patient throughout the second-half and eventually found the breakthrough when Harry Kane equalised in the 75th minute. The England captain then completed the turnaround with another clinical finish four minutes from time to bag progression for the English side.
Head-to-Head
England have won each of the previous four meetings between these nations, including a 3-1 victory in an International Friendly during 2010.

England 2.50
Verdict
Mexico have been outstanding defensively throughout the tournament and have yet to concede a goal, but this represents their toughest assignment so far. England have shown resilience by fighting back against D.R. Congo and possess great firepower through Harry Kane. I believe that this will be a tough assignment for England taking on Mexico at home and I see this ending in a draw after 90 minutes.
