English Premier League Betting Preview – Saturday, 29th August

We take a look at three of the fixtures taking place in the English Premier League on Saturday and suggest a bet in each game.

EPL Outright Betting Update

Heading into the weekend’s action, Arsenal remain firm favourites to defend the English Premier League title and are priced at 1.90.

Manchester City are next in the betting at 5.00, followed by Chelsea at 7.00 and Liverpool at 10.00. The balance of the teams are available at odds of 15.00 and bigger.

There are also plenty of other long-term markets on offer, including the Premier League top goalscorer market, where Erling Haaland is the 1.65 favourite.

Liverpool v Nottingham Forest

Liverpool had to come from behind to draw 2-2 with Newcastle United in their opening match and sit tenth in the early league standings.

Nottingham Forest started as slight favourites at home to Leeds United in their opening game, but things did not go their way. They struggled to create opportunities in front of goal and eventually went down to an 88th-minute winner from the visitors.

Head-to-Head

The away team won both meetings last season. Liverpool recorded a 1-0 victory in Nottingham, while Forest produced an impressive 3-0 win at Anfield earlier in the campaign.

Liverpool 1.56
Draw 4.75
Nottingham Forest 5.75

Verdict

Liverpool should be difficult to beat at Anfield. With Nottingham Forest having looked poor in front of goal in their opening match, I am backing the Reds to collect all three points without conceding.

Bournemouth v Everton

Bournemouth produced a spirited performance in their opening match but eventually went down 2-1 away to Manchester City.

Marcus Tavernier gave Bournemouth the lead in the 26th minute, and they appeared on course for a massive three points. Unfortunately for the visitors, City equalised in the 84th minute before scoring the winner deep into injury time.

Everton began their campaign at home to Crystal Palace and justified favouritism with a workmanlike 2-0 victory.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall opened the scoring in the 42nd minute before Thierno Barry doubled Everton’s advantage in the 53rd.

Head-to-Head

The away team won both meetings last season, with Bournemouth recording a 2-1 victory at Everton and Everton winning 1-0 at Bournemouth.

The visiting side has now won each of the last three league meetings between these teams.

Bournemouth 2.10
Draw 3.50
Everton 3.65

Verdict

I was impressed with Bournemouth in their opening match, but I am not convinced they should be trading at such a short price.

Everton can give a good account of themselves here. Over 2.5 goals at 1.87 was considered, but I have settled on the draw in what should be a closely contested match.

BET: Draw at 3.50

Tottenham v Newcastle United

Tottenham only narrowly avoided relegation last season, and if their opening performance is anything to go by, it could be another difficult campaign for their supporters.

Spurs were away to Brentford, who started as just over even-money favourites but won like a considerably shorter-priced team. Tottenham conceded in the 12th, 33rd and 49th minutes and never managed to get into the contest, eventually losing 3-0.

Newcastle United started as underdogs at home to Liverpool, but their supporters would have taken plenty of encouragement from a strong performance.

Anthony Elanga gave Newcastle the lead in the fifth minute before Liverpool equalised in the 55th. Joe Willock restored Newcastle’s advantage just two minutes later, but Liverpool converted a penalty deep into injury time to rescue a 2-2 draw.

Head-to-Head

Newcastle beat Tottenham 2-1 on the road last season, while the reverse fixture finished in a 2-2 draw.

Newcastle completed the league double over Spurs during the previous season, winning both matches 2-1.

Tottenham 2.35
Draw 3.75
Newcastle United 3.00

Verdict

Based on what I saw during the opening round, I am surprised to see Newcastle trading as underdogs.

They produced a far more encouraging performance than Tottenham and have an excellent recent record in this fixture. The value appears to be with the visitors to collect all three points.

BET: Newcastle United to Win at 3.00
