Turffontein Best Bets & Race Preview: Sunday 8 November 2026
Highveld racing takes centre stage this Sunday as the Big T hosts a cracking 10-race programme on the Standside Track. The R500,000 Grade 3 TAB Victory Moon Stakes headlines an exciting afternoon, supported by two further feature races and a competitive card packed with betting opportunities.
With some of South Africa’s leading jockeys and trainers in action, there is plenty to look forward to at Turffontein. Taxi To The Moon catches the eye in Race 4 as our Best Bet, while Treasure State looks a strong Next Best selection after an encouraging effort over course and distance.
Our Turffontein racing tips and best bets guide you through all 10 races, including our each-way selection, feature race highlights and WSB Boosted Daily Double.
Whether you’re looking at the Pick 6, Jackpot, Bi-Pot or Place Accumulator, here’s our assessment of Sunday’s action.
Sunday’s Turffontein Feature Races
Three feature races add extra quality to the programme at the Big T:
- R500,000 TAB Victory Moon Stakes (Grade 3)
- R250,000 TAB National Colour Stakes (Listed)
- R225,000 TAB Summer Pudding Handicap (Listed)
The Victory Moon Stakes is the headline attraction, with the National Colour Stakes and Summer Pudding Handicap adding further interest to an action-packed afternoon.
Turffontein Standside: Track Guide
Turffontein is one of South Africa’s premier horse racing venues, and its Standside course provides a distinctive test for horses and jockeys.
The expansive layout and long home straight give runners time to build their challenges, but the demanding uphill finish can catch out horses that have used too much energy early. Stamina, fitness and a well-timed ride are often crucial to success at the Big T.

Turffontein Standside track details
- Surface: Turf
- Course layout: Approximately 2,700m oval
- Home straight: Approximately 800m
- Longest straight: Up to 1,160m
- Key feature: A demanding uphill finish that tests stamina and finishing strength
The course often rewards horses with a strong finishing effort, particularly when jockeys judge their challenges correctly down the long straight.

Turffontein Best Bets: Race-by-Race Preview
Let’s get stuck into Sunday’s 10-race programme, with our selections, jockey and trainer combinations, and horses to keep an eye on.
Race 1 – No Selection
We are passing on the opening race and have no official selection. A competitive start to the programme, so watch the market for any significant support.
Race 2 – No Selection
No selection in Race 2 either. We will look to get involved further down the card, where a couple of runners make plenty of appeal.
Race 3 – Treasure State – NEXT BEST BET
Jockey: Keagan De Melo
Trainer: Sean Tarry
Treasure State looks a strong contender after finishing a good third over this course and distance in a stronger race last time out. She now gets the benefit of a reduced mark, and a repeat of that performance should put her firmly in the picture.
She is our Next Best selection and looks well worth following.
Race 4 – Taxi To The Moon – BEST BET
Jockey: Richard Fourie
Trainer: Tony Peter
Taxi To The Moon is one of the fastest sprinters in the country and looks the one to beat in this contest.
He appears favourably treated at the weights, and with Richard Fourie in the saddle, there is plenty to like about his chances. If he produces his best, he will be a tough horse to stop.
BEST BET: Taxi To The Moon
Race 5 – Green Diamond
Jockey: Craig Zackey
Trainer: Sean Tarry
Green Diamond finished fourth over this course and distance in the Grade 1 Computaform Sprint. That was a high-quality performance, and a repeat of that effort should make her a serious contender here.
She has the ability to get involved and deserves plenty of respect.
Race 6 – Reece’s Wish
Jockey: Keagan De Melo
Trainer: Candice Tammy Dawson
Reece’s Wish arrives in good form, and the stable also appears to be enjoying a productive spell.
She has been holding her form well and looks capable of making another competitive appearance. She is one to keep onside in Race 6.
Race 7 – Drumnadrochit
Jockey: Chase Maujean
Trainer: Mike & Mathew de Kock
Drumnadrochit is an interesting runner, particularly after producing an impressive and easy victory on the Inside Track last time out.
She now makes the switch to the Standside course and will need to transfer that form to a different layout. However, her latest performance was encouraging, and she could have more to offer.
Her Summer Cup entry adds further interest.
Race 8 – Mission To Mars
Jockey: Philasande Mxoli
Trainer: Stuart Pettigrew
Mission To Mars will be looking to bounce back after disappointing as an odds-on favourite last time out.
The return to a distance over which he has previously won could make a significant difference, and he has an opportunity to put that latest defeat behind him.
He is worth another look in Race 8.
Race 9 – Cool Gambler
Jockey: Callan Murray
Trainer: Mike & Mathew de Kock
Cool Gambler could appreciate this step up in distance, with his pedigree suggesting that he has the potential to improve over further.
He is an interesting runner in what could prove to be a competitive contest, and any improvement over this trip would put him into the mix.
Race 10 – Little Boy Blue – EACH-WAY SELECTION
Jockey: Blaine Marx-Jacobson
Trainer: Tony Peter
Little Boy Blue arrives in fine form and has the opportunity to make it three consecutive victories.
He has been doing plenty right recently, and another competitive performance would not come as a surprise. He looks to have a solid each-way chance of rounding off the programme with another success.
EACH-WAY PICK: Little Boy Blue
