The PGA Tour heads to Muirfield Village Golf Club in Ohio this week for the Memorial Tournament, a signature event with a $20 million prize pool and one of the most prestigious non-major titles on the calendar. We take a look at this week’s tournament from a betting angle and lay down a few suggested bets.
The Course
This week’s PGA Tour action heads to Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, the Jack Nicklaus-designed venue that has hosted the Memorial Tournament since 1976. The par-72 layout stretches to 7,569 yards (6,921 meters) and, following a Nicklaus-led renovation in 2020, is widely regarded as one of the most demanding non-major tests on the schedule. The course is defined by its small, sloped bentgrass greens, tight tree-lined fairways and water hazards that come into play on a number of holes. Add in rough that is typically grown thick enough to punish anything wayward off the tee, and you have a course that consistently separates the elite ball-strikers from the rest of the field.
From a betting angle, Muirfield Village rewards complete players over one-dimensional bombers. The small, well-protected greens make greens in regulation one of the most predictive stats around here, and when players inevitably miss the green, scrambling becomes absolutely critical given how penal the bunkering and run-off areas are. The last two years have been dominated by Scottie Scheffler, who has gone back-to-back at the Memorial precisely because he combines elite iron play with one of the best short games in the world. Look for players who can both hit a high percentage of greens and recover well when they don’t, with a smooth bentgrass putter to finish the job.
Market Leaders
Scottie Scheffler is the obvious favourite this week, trading at 4.30 as he looks to make it three Memorial titles in a row. Rory McIlroy is the next-shortest price at 12.00, with Ludvig Åberg behind him at 15.00 in a market that thins out quickly after the top of the board. Cameron Young is available at 17.00 with Xander Schauffele priced at 19.00, both elite ball-strikers who should enjoy a course that rewards quality iron play. With Scheffler so dominant at this venue, the rest of the market is going to need something special to deny him a hat-trick.

Alex Smalley at 51.00
Smalley is our outside shot this week, but based on his recent form I am genuinely surprised to see him priced at 51.00. He is coming off the back of a third-place finish last weekend at the Charles Schwab Challenge. Where he finished just one shot away from a place in the playoff. His previous start saw him finish runner-up at the PGA Championship, his second runner-up result in his last five starts, with the other coming at the Zurich Classic. Smalley is currently ranked 6th on Tour for greens in regulation, and as we saw across the last two years when Scheffler won here, greens in regulation are absolutely critical around Muirfield. I really like him at this price.

Russell Henley at 21.00
Henley has flown under the radar this season but has been quietly brilliant, picking up a win at the Charles Schwab Challenge to add to his trophy cabinet. He struggled at the PGA Championship, missing the cut, but was much better at the Masters earlier in the year, finishing in third place. Where Henley really sets himself apart from the rest of this field is his scrambling, and with the small greens at Muirfield, players are going to find themselves needing to get up and down regularly throughout the week. He is also accurate with the driver, and even though driving isn’t the deciding factor at Muirfield, with rough growing up to four inches, finding the fairway remains a crucial part of the test.

Scottie Scheffler at 4.30
Although Scheffler hasn’t won a tournament in a few weeks, he seems to be in contention every single week. In four of his last five tournaments, he has finished inside the top three, including three runner-up results. It is a matter of time before he gets another win, and a return to a course where he has gone back-to-back in the last two years could well be the trigger. Scheffler’s Tour stats speak for themselves and I think this is the week we see him return to the winner’s circle.

Corey Conners at 126.00
While Conners hasn’t shot the lights out here he has solid form with a 13th place and 3 top 25finishes in 6 starts.
Likewise his recent form has been solid but not spectacular but he looks overpriced to me and I am hoping he comes in strong after a short break.
