Formula 1 – Hungarian GP 2026 Betting Preview

Formula 1 continues its European swing this weekend with the Hungarian Grand Prix at the historic Hungaroring in Budapest. We look at the race from a betting angle.

After Kimi Antonelli’s superb win at Spa last time out, the young Italian looks to have all but wrapped up the Drivers’ Championship, and Mercedes are on the verge of the Constructors’ crown as well. Charles Leclerc will be looking to hit back after finishing second in Belgium, while Max Verstappen showed real signs of life with a podium last weekend. It should be a fascinating race at one of the more unique circuits on the calendar as we head into the final race before the summer break.

DRIVERS CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE

Kimi Antonelli has essentially wrapped up the Drivers’ Championship, sitting on 204 points and continuing to pull further away from the rest of the field. Lewis Hamilton has now moved up to second on 159, with George Russell just behind him in third on 154. Charles Leclerc sits fourth on 126 points after his podium at Spa, while Max Verstappen finds himself down in seventh on 91 points despite his recent Belgian podium.

The bookies see Antonelli as a virtual certainty for the title at just 1.22, a price that reflects his ridiculous dominance across the season so far. Hamilton and Russell are next in the market at 9.00 and 11.00 respectively, both driving well but running out of races to catch their young Mercedes team-mate. Leclerc is out at 26.00 while Verstappen is available at 41.00 as a genuine long shot from here on in.

CONSTRUCTORS CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE

Mercedes have essentially wrapped up the Constructors’ Championship. Sitting on 358 points, they have built up a truly enormous 73-point buffer over second-placed Ferrari on 285, and with the season winding down it would take an absolute miracle for the Scuderia to catch them. That is reflected in the market too, with Mercedes now available at just 1.08 to secure the title, while Ferrari drift out to 7.00. There is very little value to be found here and this one looks well and truly done.

Last Race – Belgian GP 2026

Last weekend’s Belgian GP at Spa-Francorchamps produced yet another Antonelli victory, with the young Italian claiming his sixth win of the season in dominant style. Charles Leclerc came home second for Ferrari after his brilliant win at Silverstone the round before, and Max Verstappen produced his best performance in some time to finish third in the Red Bull. Lewis Hamilton was fourth in the sister Ferrari, with Oscar Piastri rounding out the top five for McLaren. It was a nightmare weekend for George Russell, who was forced to retire with a DNF.

Hungarian GP 2025

Last year’s Hungarian GP was won brilliantly by Lando Norris, with team-mate Oscar Piastri making it a McLaren one-two in second place. George Russell was third for Mercedes, showing that Silver Arrows pace at this circuit, with Charles Leclerc coming fourth for Ferrari and the ever-impressive Fernando Alonso completing the top five for Aston Martin. Elsewhere, Max Verstappen could only manage ninth, Kimi Antonelli was 10th on a difficult weekend, and Lewis Hamilton had to settle for 12th on an equally forgettable afternoon.

Circuit

The Hungaroring is one of the most unique and technical circuits on the entire F1 calendar. Located just outside Budapest, the tight, twisty layout has often been described as “Monaco without walls” and rewards precision, chassis balance and driver commitment more than pure top speed. Overtaking is notoriously difficult here, which means qualifying tends to be absolutely crucial, and grid position often dictates the entire race outcome. Temperatures in Hungary in early August can be brutal on drivers and machinery alike, adding another layer of difficulty to the weekend. Expect a strategic, chess-like race where clever pit stops and tyre management can win it.

Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes)                           2.60

Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari)                                4.75

Charles Leclerc (Ferrari)                                5.50

George Russell (Mercedes)                          7.00

Lando Norris (McLaren)                                10.00

Max Verstappen (Red Bull Racing)             10.00

Oscar Piastri (McLaren)                                 21.00

Betting and Verdict:

Kimi Antonelli continued his remarkable run at the top of the Drivers’ Championship last weekend as he won the Belgian GP. That was his 6th win of the season, with his other victories this year coming in China, Japan, Miami, Canada and Monaco. Antonelli does not look like slowing down any time soon and, with Mercedes clearly the class of the field, at 2.60 for the win we think that is a very fair price for the young Italian to bag his seventh of the campaign.

Suggested bet: Kimi Antonelli to win at 2.60.

Max Verstappen found some real pace last weekend in Belgium as he fought hard to finish third and grab a well-earned podium. This week we are going to back him to keep that momentum going. Verstappen has plenty of experience at the Hungaroring and has seen success there before, and if he can carry the pace he found at Spa into Budapest, we could very well see another podium finish from him this weekend.

Suggested Bet: Max Verstappen top 3 finish at 2.50.
