South Africa and Australia meet in the second match of their three match ODI series on Sunday the 27th of September at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. The Proteas take a 1-0 lead into the contest after winning the opener in Durban by 67 runs. We take a closer look at that match and the second ODI before offering up a couple of bets for consideration.
FIRST ODI RECAP
Australia elected to field at Kingsmead and made a strong start, reducing South Africa to 29/2 inside eight overs. Tony de Zorzi fell for a duck and Quinton de Kock made 14 runs but Matthew Breetzke rebuilt the innings alongside captain Temba Bavuma.
Bavuma contributed 30 and Ryan Rickelton added 27 before South Africa slipped to 168/5 in the 34th over. Breetzke remained at the crease and found support from Marco Jansen in a partnership that changed the course of the innings.
Breetzke struck 112 from 106 balls, including 14 fours and 2 sixes. Jansen supplied the late acceleration with 75 from 59 deliveries as the pair added 107 for the sixth wicket. South Africa scored 89 runs in the final ten overs to reach 297/8. Nathan Ellis was Australia’s leading bowler with figures of 3/57.
Australia began the chase at a blistering pace. Mitchell Marsh hit 6 sixes in his 60 from 36 balls and put on 90 with Travis Head for the opening wicket. The visitors reached 96/1 after ten overs and were 124/1 at the 15 over drinks break leaving South Africa under considerable pressure.
Keshav Maharaj dismissed Marsh to give the Proteas an opening and the chase slowed as wickets fell through the middle overs. Head made 36, Cooper Connolly scored 38 and Matt Renshaw added 44 but none could carry Australia close enough to the target.
Maharaj finished with outstanding figures of 4/20 from 9.2 overs, while Bjorn Fortuin and Corbin Bosch claimed two wickets apiece. Australia were bowled out for 230 in the 42nd over, handing South Africa a 67 run victory while Breetzke was named Player of the Match for his century and three catches.

South Africa 2.10
Australia 1.73
South Africa may well be worth a punt here as the bookies are perhaps giving the Aussies too much respect. I am going to sit the match result out though and will get involved in some of the other markets on offer.
SUGGESTED BETS
Travis Head to Score 50+ Runs at 2.70
Travis Head made 36 in the first ODI and helped Australia reach 90 without loss alongside Mitchell Marsh. He was well set before falling in the 17th over and if he builds on that start at the Wanderers, I think he has a strong chance of reaching 50.
Top South Africa Bowler – Keshav Maharaj at 4.50
Maharaj turned the first match in South Africa’s favour after Australia’s rapid start. His control through the middle overs and four wicket return make him an appealing choice to lead the Proteas’ bowling figures in Johannesburg.
