The big Soweto Derby takes place on Saturday at the FNB Stadium, otherwise known as Soccer City, as Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs renew one of the biggest rivalries in world football. We take a look at this eagerly anticipated clash from a betting angle.

Orlando Pirates are trading at 2.00 to defend their PSL title, just ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns at 2.20. AmaZulu are next in the betting at 9.00, followed by Kaizer Chiefs at 11.00, with the balance of the field available at 67.00 and better.
Sundowns currently lead Pirates by a single point at the top of the table, although the Buccaneers have a game in hand.
Orlando Pirates vs Kaizer Chiefs
Orlando Pirates have made an excellent start to their title defence and sit second on the log with seven wins and a draw from their opening eight matches.
They have been particularly impressive defensively, conceding just once in those eight games while scoring 19 goals. Pirates have now kept six consecutive clean sheets in the PSL, and their recent results suggest they are going to take some stopping this season.
Their most recent league outing was a comfortable 3-0 home victory over TS Galaxy, which followed a 2-0 away win against Marumo Gallants.
Kaizer Chiefs have also made a solid start to the campaign and sit fifth on the table, eight points behind their Soweto rivals after eight matches.
Amakhosi remain unbeaten in the league, although five draws from eight games have prevented them from making a stronger challenge at the top. They have drawn five of their last six league matches, scoring 13 goals and conceding eight across their opening eight fixtures.
Chiefs were held to a 1-1 home draw by Stellenbosch last time out, having previously played out a goalless draw away to Golden Arrows. That was their third consecutive stalemate.
Head-to-Head
Draws had become something of a rarity in this fixture before the sides played out a 1-1 draw in their most recent league meeting. Pirates won the reverse fixture 3-0.
The Soweto Derby is traditionally a tight affair, with matches often decided by a single goal. Under 2.5 goals has generally been a popular betting angle in these encounters, and another cagey contest could be on the cards.

Orlando Pirates 1.78 | Draw 3.50 | Kaizer Chiefs 5.50
Betting Verdict
Both teams head into the derby on the back of convincing 3-0 Carling Cup victories. Chiefs saw off TS Galaxy, while Pirates beat Milford by the same scoreline.
Pirates look to have stepped up another gear this season, particularly at the back, and although Chiefs are much improved, they haven’t been as convincing as their Soweto rivals.
I fancy Pirates to edge what should be a close, low-scoring encounter.
Other betting options worth considering:
- Orlando Pirates to win – 1.78
- Correct score: Orlando Pirates 1-0 – 5.50
- Three-way handicap: Draw (Pirates -1) – 3.50 (Pirates to win by exactly one goal)
- Match Result & Total Goals Under/Over 2.5: Orlando Pirates & Under 2.5 – 3.00
Best Bet
Match Result & Total Goals Under/Over 2.5: Orlando Pirates & Under 2.5 Goals at 3.00
Pirates’ defensive record gives them a clear edge, but Chiefs have proved difficult to beat. A narrow “home” win looks the most likely outcome, with 1-0 or 2-0 both fitting the selection.
