Italian Open 2026 Betting Preview

The DP World Tour heads to Italy this week for the Italian Open, one of the more historic events on the European calendar. The tournament has been won by some seriously big names over the years on their way to the very top of the world game, with the likes of Robert MacIntyre and Nicolai Højgaard both lifting this trophy before going on to become regular contenders at Major Championships, and Francesco Molinari taking it home twice during his career. We take a look at this week’s action from a betting angle and lay down a few suggested plays for your consideration.

Course

This week’s DP World Tour action heads to Circolo Golf Torino, where players will take on the Blue Course, a classic parkland layout in the rolling countryside just outside Turin in northern Italy. The course is a relatively short par-71 by tour standards, with tree-lined fairways, gently rolling terrain and small, well-protected greens that put a real emphasis on placement off the tee and short-iron precision into approach. Length is not a major factor at this venue, but accuracy and patience absolutely are, with the course rewarding players who can keep the ball below the hole on undulating green complexes.

This course last hosted the Italian Open back in 2014.

From a betting angle, this is a course that rewards complete, controlled golf rather than raw firepower. Strokes gained on approach and around the green are typically the two stats that correlate best with success at venues like this, and putting on the slick parkland greens can decide the tournament. With the field made up almost exclusively of DP World Tour regulars who have spent the season grinding around similar setups across Europe, this looks like a week where in-form players with sharp irons and patient game-plans should rise to the top of the leaderboard.

SELECTIONS:

Joaquin Niemann at 8.50

Our first pick of the week is the favourite, Joaquin Niemann, and there is good reason for it. The Chilean has had a brilliant season on LIV and is currently leading the field for most LIV events won of all time ahead of the likes of Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau, and he also comes into this week off the back of an impressive US Open performance where he finished T7th, just five shots off the lead. Niemann carded an 11 (+7) on the par-4 6th in the first round of the major but he then fought back to make the cut and shot a four-under final round to secure that 7th-place finish. If it weren’t for that one hole he would very much have been in contention, so the underlying game is clearly in great shape, and at 8.50 he looks deservingly priced.

Suggested bet: Joaquin Niemann each way at 8.50.

Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra at 23.00

The Spaniard has been on a really solid run of form on the DP World Tour recently and comes into this week off the back of a win at the KLM Open earlier this month. Before that he finished T12th at the Austrian Open prior to his win, T22nd at the Soudal Open in his start before and T10th at the Catalunya Championship back in May. Chacarra’s other big result this season was a runner-up at the Hero Indian Open in March, where he finished just two shots behind Alex Fitzpatrick. With the form he is in and a course that should suit his game well, I really like Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra at 23.00 this week.

Suggested bet: Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra each way at 23.00

Kota Kaneko at 56.00

Kaneko comes into this week off the back of a runner-up at the Soudal Open followed by his maiden DP World Tour win at the Austrian Open the week after. The Japanese player finished tied second at the Soudal after a four-under final round saw him come up just two shots off the lead, then kept the momentum brilliantly the following week with another strong closing performance, a three-under final round, to win the Austrian Alpine Open by two shots. Although that win came a month ago, he now knows what it takes to lift a trophy on the DP World Tour, and at 56.00 I really like him as the value pick this week.

Suggested bet: Kota Kaneko each way at 56.00
