Czechia and South Africa meet in a crucial Group A World Cup fixture in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Thursday evening, South African time. With both sides having lost their opening matches, they will know that victory is paramount if they are to qualify for the Round of 32.
We look at the fixture from a betting angle.
Long-Term Markets
Let’s start with some of the long-term betting markets available, and in particular the South African World Cup specials which are available here.
You can get 5.00 on South Africa to qualify from the group, while South Africa are also 5.00 to score over 3.5 goals in the tournament.

Czechia
They were slight underdogs for their opening match against South Korea, but they took the lead in the 59th minute through Ladislav Krejčí, only to concede an equaliser in the 67th minute before ultimately losing to an 80th-minute winner from South Korea.
That defeat ended a run of six consecutive victories coming into the tournament.
Both teams have scored in Czechia’s last five matches, while over 2.5 goals backers have collected in each of Czechia’s last six games.
South Africa
There was huge disappointment in the South African camp following their opening 2-0 defeat to hosts Mexico.
While the result itself was not entirely unexpected, there was a feeling that South Africa approached the game with a negative mindset, seemingly playing for the draw.
After conceding inside the opening 10 minutes following a defensive error, they failed to change gears or adapt their tactics sufficiently.
Mexico added a second goal in the 67th minute to effectively seal the result.
It will be fascinating to see what tactical approach South Africa adopt here, because this is a match they surely must try and win, given they have a tough clash against South Korea to finish the group.
South Africa are currently enduring a poor run of form and have now gone seven international matches without a victory.
Head-to-Head
These sides met in the FIFA Confederations Cup back in 1997, with the match ending in a 2-2 draw.

Verdict
The importance of this game for both sides cannot be underestimated.
What will be particularly interesting is whether the teams begin cautiously, looking to avoid conceding an early goal, or whether they adopt a more positive approach from the first whistle knowing that a draw may not be enough.
Looking at Czechia’s recent record, I think we could get an open game, perhaps more open than the bookmakers are expecting.
The heart says South Africa, but the wallet says Czechia.
I expect Czechia to get the win in what should be an entertaining encounter featuring goals at both ends.
