India and South Africa meet in Ahmedabad on Friday for the 5th and final T20 International, with India holding a 2–1 lead in the series. With one match abandoned, the best South Africa can hope for is to level the series.
Looking back over the tour as a whole, South Africa made a strong start by winning the Test series 2–0. India responded well in the limited-overs formats, taking the three-match ODI series 2–1 and currently leading the T20 series.
The fourth T20 was unfortunately abandoned without a ball being bowled, leaving India 2–1 ahead after convincing victories in the 1st T20 in Cuttack and the 3rd T20 in Dharamsala. South Africa’s standout performance came in New Chandigarh, where they levelled the series with a comprehensive 51-run win.
T20 Series Stats
With no fourth match to review, it is worth digging into the individual numbers as we look for betting opportunities to close out the series.
Bowling
India’s Varun Chakravarthy is the leading wicket-taker in the series with six wickets at an outstanding average of 9.83. That tally is matched by South Africa’s Lungi Ngidi, whose six wickets have come at an average of 13.33. Both have been consistent strike bowlers and remain key figures heading into the decider.
Batting
Tristan Stubbs, despite some criticism earlier in the tour, has quietly put together a strong series. He leads the run-scoring charts with 163 runs at an average of 54.33. Washington Sundar sits second with 124 runs at an average of 31.00.
5th T20 Match Odds – click here to bet
- India: 1.44
- South Africa: 2.95
This has been a series of momentum swings, with very few genuinely close contests. India will be keen to seal the T20 series and further ease the pain of their Test series defeat, while South Africa have an opportunity to finish the tour on a positive note despite some inconsistent performances.
At the current prices, South Africa appeal as value in a match that could easily swing if they start well.
Betting Picks
Match Result
- South Africa to win at 2.95
Top South Africa Wicket-Taker
- Lungi Ngidi at 4.75
Ngidi is joint leading wicket-taker in the series and offers strong value. He has the ability to strike early and is also effective at the death when wickets often fall in clusters.
Player Runs
- Rohit Sharma over 25.5 runs at 1.87
Sharma has looked fluent at the top of the order and is capable of getting India off to a fast start. With the top-batter market unavailable at the time of writing, this is a more conservative angle that still offers solid value.
