Arsenal host Crystal Palace at the Emirates on Wednesday, looking to stay sharp ahead of next week’s Champions League semi-final. With their unbeaten run still intact, the Gunners will want another strong showing in front of their home crowd. Here are my thoughts along with a betting angle for you to consider.
Before diving into the match itself, it’s worth taking a quick look at the Premier League outright markets. Liverpool remain firmly in control at the top over Arsenal in second. With a blockbuster Champions League semi-final first leg against Paris Saint-Germain looming large next week, Arsenal return to domestic action on Wednesday as they welcome Crystal Palace to the Emirates Stadium. Mikel Arteta’s side will be aiming to maintain their recent momentum while carefully managing the balance between European ambition and Premier League pride.
The Gunners were in ruthless form over the weekend, brushing aside Ipswich Town 4-0 to extend their unbeaten streak to 11 matches across all competitions. In the league, they’ve put together a seven-game unbeaten run, though with just three wins during that stretch, it’s been more about grinding out results than putting teams to the sword.
Currently second in the league table on 66 points, Arsenal trail runaway leaders, Liverpool by 13 points. With the title now seemingly out of reach, a third consecutive second-place finish looks like the most realistic outcome for the North London outfit.
Arsenal have been strong at the Emirates all season, losing just once in 16 league matches. They’ve collected 35 points at home, averaging two goals per game (31 scored) while conceding just 13. They are unbeaten in their last five matches in London across all competitions and have taken seven points from the last nine available in the league on home turf.
Crystal Palace, meanwhile, head across London in a dip of form and confidence. Oliver Glasner’s side have taken just one point from their last three league games—a goalless draw at home to Bournemouth which at least ended a run of back-to-back defeats. Currently 12th in the table with 44 points, the Eagles are comfortably mid-table but will be eager to recapture the form that briefly had them pushing for a top-ten finish.
Recent visits to the Emirates have been forgettable for Palace, who have lost each of their last three trips, including a 5-0 defeat in this fixture last season. Their recent away form doesn’t inspire much hope either, with heavy defeats at Manchester City and Newcastle in which they conceded five goals on each occasion. That’s a far cry from the confident run of seven straight wins across all competitions they produced earlier in the season.
Despite the downturn, Palace have still picked up 23 points on the road this season (W6 D5 L5), keeping them in the top half of the Premier League away standings, but their recent defensive struggles, especially against top-tier opposition, raise questions about how well they’ll cope in North London.
Head-to-Head
Arsenal have dominated recent meetings between these two sides, winning six in a row in all competitions. Earlier this season, they dismantled Palace 5-1 at Selhurst Park, while last season’s meeting at the Emirates also ended in a convincing 5-0 win for the Gunners.
Betting
Arsenal 9/20
Draw 15/4
Crystal Palace 13/2
Verdict
Even with one eye on their looming European semi-final, Arsenal have the depth, form, and home advantage to dispatch a struggling Crystal Palace side. The Eagles recent defensive lapses against top teams suggest another tough outing awaits them in North London.
Suggested Bet: Handicap – Arsenal -1.5 at 5/4
