Worldy’s Won for the Weekend April 06 – April 07
Kenilworth 06 April
Enemy Territory Race 6 Number 5 @ 12/1
After 3 straight wins, including an emphatic victory over highly thought of Saartjie in the Summer Bowl in November, our selection has failed to shape in 3 subsequent races, albeit in arguably stronger company.
She also comes into the race as the highest rated filly in the race, and as such receives weight from all 9 of her competitors.
Admittedly she takes on some decent sorts in Kyalami Girl and Summer Lily, and has a length or 2 to find on Siddeley on their meeting with Ripple Effect, but on Saturday she drops back to 1400m, a distance she has recorded 2 wins for 3 starts, and this could very well bring into the mix at decent each way odds.
Turffontein
Son of Raj Race 9 Number 8 @ 8/1
On a card with no less than 5 odds on favourites, we look to one of the more open races to provide some value on an extremely competitive Turffontein card.
Son of Raj takes his place in the Grade 1 Champions Challenge after losing his way slightly since a disappointing 2023 KZN season. Touted as a real July contender, he failed to find the frame in both the Daily News 2000 and the July itself, and was subsequently rested for 5 months. He marked his return with an encouraging run, finishing just 2 lengths behind Atticus Finch. He then found himself hopelessly wide for the entire back stretch from draw 18 in the Summer Cup and despite leading at the 350m mark, was found wanting after his earlier effort, but still managed to stay on for a very creditable 4 length 6th place.
Weiho Marwing has brought him along since another 3 month rest, first over 1400m with the blinkers removed for the 1st time in 8 outings, which predictably proved too short, followed by a good showing in the Horse Chestnut over the mile, staying on for 5th despite receiving a race ending bump from Cousin Casey at the 250m mark.
On Saturday, he should strip at his fittest, and will look to reproduce the same type of scintillating performances that landed him both the Derby Trial and Grade 1 Derby in successive outings, the Derby victory coming on this race day last year.
From draw 7, there is a definite expectation that he could challenge the more fancied runners for top honours.
Scottsville 07 April
Now I Got You Race 8 Number 7 @ 10/1
Our final selection of the weekend comes in the last race of the day in the form of Now I Got You.
Having recorded 2 seconds from 2 outings at the course, his last Scottsville run is particularly encouraging as he ran Ishnana to half a length, in which he had subsequent winners, Master Josh, Mr Henley and Parmenion behind him on the day.
He receives a 4kg allowance from apprentice Bevan Plaatjies, which should be enough to see him represent some decent each way value.
