Worldy’s Won for the Weekend April 13 – 14
Kenilworth April 13
Water Dragon Race 4 Number 3 @ 9/2
Going off at a hugely unfancied 66/1 on debut, and despite running very green, Water Dragon stayed on encouragingly to finish just 2,25 lengths behind subsequent Grade 3 winner My Golly Molly. More eye catching however, was that behind him on that day was the now 111 rated Hluhluwe, who has already captured a Grade 2 title and has not been disgraced in any of 3 x Grade 1 starts either.
Admittedly, his 2nd start over 1600m was supremely disappointing, even though he only finished 4,25 lengths behind Blue Bay, but he was coming back from a 10 month layoff on the day. That run itself was 8 weeks ago, and so if you take his soundness on trust, especially with a strong chance of forgiving going after an extended period of rain in Cape Town earlier in the week, back down 1400m, and with Bernard Faydherbe in the saddle, it would be no surprise to see him challenging the top 2 pairing in Mont Loisir and Greenland, both of whom have yet to meet the calibre of Water Dragon’s debut field.
Scottsville April 14
Sovereign State Race 4 Number 3 @ 7/1
After back to back wins in his first 3 starts, including debut victories over both Star Performer and the very smart pair of King of the Gauls and Beamonesque, this after being very poorly away at the start – in a race that has since yielded 14 subsequent wins and 6 second place finishes from just 53 runs – our selection then campaigned in 2 Graded Races where he finished just 5 lengths off the pair of Main Defender and Sandringham Summit in the Graham Beck Stakes, before disappointing in the Dingaans over 1600m after moving up and failing to finish off his race.
Even though he is coming back from a 5 month break, the way in which he won his debut over 1000m strongly suggests that he will enjoy running from fresh, further taking into account that his only run at Scottsvile yielded a 400m to finish time of 21.3 seconds, a full second faster than any of his competitors have recorded over that course and distance.
Respect is obviously given to the Cape visitor Teflon Man, the up and coming Thisiswhatitmeans and the tried and tested trio of Sun Blushed, Captain Bombshell and Good Traveller, but with our selection, one does get the feeling that the price on offer represents some decent each way value
