Stage 9 of the Tour de France takes place on Sunday, 13 July 2025, and covers a 174.1 km flat route from Chinon to Châteauroux. With minimal climbing, the stage offers a prime opportunity for the sprinters to shine. We look at the stage from a betting perspective and offer up a selection for consideration.
Stage 8 Review
As expected, Stage 8 came down to a bunch sprint with our pick Jonathan Milan delivering the win at odds of 2.50. The stage itself offered little excitement as the sprinters’ teams took full control, making it clear that no breaks would be allowed—at least not before the intermediate Green Jersey sprint, which Milan also won.
Outright Betting Update
Tadej Pogacar continues to lead the General Classification with a total time of 29:48:30, holding a 54-second advantage over Remco Evenepoel, with Kevin Vauquelin a further 17 seconds back in third. Jonas Vingegaard sits in fourth, 1:17 off the lead.

Green Jersey Standings
Jonathan Milan reclaimed the lead in the points classification with 182 points, moving back ahead of Tadej Pogacar (156). Biniam Girmay who could only finish 19th is third with 124, followed by Mathieu van der Poel who is taking no interest in the Jersey on 108.
Polka Dot Jersey (KOM) Standings
Tim Wellens continues to lead the mountains classification with 8 points, just one ahead of his UAE Team Emirates teammate Tadej Pogacar on 7. Ben Healy and Jonas Vingegaard follow with 4 points each.
Stage Profile
This flat stage favours the fast men, with no categorized climbs and wide roads that lend themselves to peloton control. The final stretch into Châteauroux is mostly straight and slightly downhill in sections, setting the stage for a high-speed, drag-race style finish.
Stage 9 – What to Expect
Expect a short-lived breakaway that will be given minimal time by the sprint teams. Lidl–Trek, Soudal Quick-Step, and Intermarché – Wanty will likely take control as the race nears its conclusion. Another mass sprint is the most likely outcome.

Bet: Jonathan Milan to win at 2.50
Milan looked really strong on Stage 8 and while this finish is slightly easier—which may suit Merlier and Groves a bit better—he has the form to go early and hold on for the win.
