The Tour visits a new town in Lauwin-Planque before heading to the coast. This long, undulating stage could suit a strong breakaway or puncheurs who thrive on short climbs although given how early it is in the tour the former is unlikely.
We take a look at the stage from a betting angle and offer up a selection for consideration.
Stage 1 Review
Stage 1 was expected to be a standard sprint finish but the crosswinds saw the peloton split in the last 20km and in the end it was Jasper Philipsen who took the win from last years Green Jersey winner Biniam Girmay. Roglic and Evenepoel were caught in the wrong side of the split and lost 40 seconds to Pogacar and Vingegaard.

Stage Profile
Stage 2 takes riders 209.1 kilometres from Lauwin-Planque to Boulogne-sur-Mer. It’s a hilly route with a sharp and punchy finale that could reshuffle the GC early on.
Stage 2 – What to Expect
The sprinters like Merlier and Milan will be kicking themselves for missing out yesterday but todays final 35km look too tough for them. It also looks as though the Yellow Jersey contenders are going to be aggressive from the start of the Tour and while a small break should go early and get 2-4 minutes I think we will get a fairly select sprint finish between contenders and classis riders.
The bookies are wise to it but the stage looks perfect for Van Der Poel who can stay with the front group and win the sprint.
