Tour de France Stage 19 Preview

Tour de France Stage 2 Preview

After a brutal Stage 18, the riders face yet more mountains in Stage 19, tackling a short but demanding 129.9 km route from Albertville to La Plagne. The stage features two Hors Catégorie climbs, including a summit finish at La Plagne.

We preview the stage and look at the latest Jersey betting.

Stage 18 Review

As expected, Visma threw everything at Pogacar in Stage 18, but they ended up burning too many matches, and in the end, no one had the legs to chase down Ben O’Connor, who took the win from the breakaway. Pogacar added a few more seconds to his lead over Vingegaard, finishing 2nd, while Oscar Onley moved within striking distance of Florian Lipowitz in the battle for third overall.

Outright Betting Update

Pogacar was clearly relieved to get through a dangerous stage unscathed. He now leads Vingegaard by 4 minutes and 26 seconds, and is the overwhelming favourite to win the Tour, currently priced at 1.02 in the outright betting.

Jonathan Milan claimed 20 points at the intermediate sprint and now holds a commanding 75-point lead over Pogacar in the Green Jersey standings. He is now priced at 1.03 to wear Green on the podium in Paris.

Polka Dot Update – click here to bet

Pogacar leads the Polka Dot Jersey standings with 105 points, ahead of Vingegaard on 89. Lenny Martinez sits third with 72 points, followed by Thymen Arensman on 65, and Stage 18 winner Ben O’Connor on 51.

Tadej Pogacar 1.20
Jonas Vingegaard 8.00
Thymen Arensman 15.00
Lenny Martinez 19.00
Felix Gall 81.00
Ben Healy 101.00
Michael Woods 101.00
Valentin Paret-Peintre 101.00

Stage Profile

The sprint comes early, just 8 km into the stage, and from that point the road begins to rise steadily toward the first Category 2 climb. The riders then face the Category 1 Col des Saisies — 13.7 km at an average gradient of 6.4% — followed by a descent and the start of the Hors Catégorie Col du Pré, which stretches 12.6 km at 7.7%. From there, it’s straight onto another Category 2 climb, then a long descent and valley section before the final major climb of the 2025 Tour: La Plagne, 19.1 km at 7.2%.

Stage 19 – What to Expect

A break is likely to go clear shortly after the sprint, and I expect to see riders from outside the top five involved. Both UAE Team Emirates and Visma will look to place riders in the move to provide support on the run-in to the final climb. However, given the relatively short stage distance, I expect UAE to take control of the race and set things up for a potential stage victory for Tadej Pogacar.

BET: Pogacar win at 2.00

Pogacar has ridden defensively over the last two mountain stages, conserving energy and managing his lead. However, I expect a change in approach for Stage 19 — with the summit finish at La Plagne, he’s likely to go on the offensive. I believe he’ll push hard for the stage win and take it convincingly.
