The Tour de France Stage 8 is 183.4 kilometres long starting in Semur-en-Auxois and finishing in Colombey-les-Deux-Églises. There are a few short climbs along the way but the sprinters should contest the finish.
Stage 7 Wrap
We were treated to a thrilling time-trial in Stage 7 with favourite, Remco Evenepoel was fastest at every split, but was chased home all the way by Yellow Jersey, Pogacar. Roglic was 3rd and Vingegaard 4th and we certainly have a thrilling couple of weeks ahead of us as all 4 of these riders will believe they can win the race.
Jersey Update
Evenepoel reduced the deficit to Pogacar to 33 seconds, but Pogacar remains a firm favourite for the Yellow Jersey at 4/10 with Vingegaard 5/2 and Evenepoel now 10/1.
Philipsen remains favourite for the Green Jersey at 11/10 and Pogacar is also favourite for the King of the Mountains currently trading at 2/1.

STAGE 8 ROUTE
This 183.4km stage won’t be easy as there are a number of climbs along the way with the road constantly up and down. The first half of the stage looks the toughest and it will be interesting to see what happens in the Green Jersey sprint after 59km. There are no classified climbs in the last 60km (5 in the first 122km) but the terrain is still up and down and a late attack cannot be discounted.
The final 2km rise at 3-5% so a tougher sprinter like Pedersen (were he not suffering after his crash) would be favoured.
STAGE 8 TACTICS
The sprinters teams will be looking to let a small break go clear but unlike previous flat stages this terrain may give the breakaway specialists some hope. I think a group of 6-8 riders will get away and we will get the sprint teams working together to being it back.
The joker could be crosswinds which would see all of the top sprinters and GC teams fighting for position. This would make for chaotic entertainment and a very tough stage to call.

PREDICTION
I think the break will put up a good fight but it will get caught. I think a lot of the less durable sprinters will be shelled and this stage looks a perfect one for Girmay to strengthen his hold on the Green Jersey.
This should also be a good stage for Coquard who I believe can hang in over the climbs and use his experience and durability for a good finish.
