Stage 5 of the Tour de France starts on Wednesday in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne and finishes 177.4 kms away in Saint Vulbas. It is profiled as a flat stage with two relatively low-key climbs and the GC teams will be content to allow the sprint teams to take control.
Stage 4 Wrap
Stage 4 certainly lived up to expectations especially the final climb up the Col de Galibier. We had put up Tadej Pogacar at 5/2 as our bet and he delivered the goods, attacking in the final kilometre of the Galibier, cresting with a 10 second advantage over his great rival, Jonas Vingegaard. Pogacar did an amazing descent putting 35 seconds into his nearest rivals which included Evenepoel, Ayuso, Roglic and Vingegaard a couple of seconds further back.
What was particularly impressive was the way Pogacar used his team to soften the field up and when he attacked he still had two teammates with him whereas Vingegaard had been isolated for some time.
Jersey Update
Pogacar is back in the Yellow Jersey and now leads the race by 45 seconds from Evenepoel with Vingegaard a further 5 seconds back. Pogacar has shortened in the betting to 9/20 while Vingegaard is now on offer at 9/4 and Evenepoel at 15/1
Jonas Abrahamsen continues to lead the Green Jersey, but from just 4 points from Biniam Girmay with Mads Pedersen a further 4 points back.
Jasper Philipsen is now 14/10 for the Green Jersey with Girmay 4/1 and Pedersen 7/4
Abrahamsen still leads the King of the Mountains race by 4 points from Pogacar, who got all of his points at the top of the Galibier. Pogacar remains favourite to win the King of the Mountains Jersey at 2/1

STAGE 5 ROUTE
The sprinters will be licking their lips at this one and will be hoping they don’t have tired legs after Stage 4. It is a fairly flat stage with a couple of uncategorised climbs and 2 CAT 4’s, the longest of which comes just over 35 kilometres from the finish and is 3 kilometres at 4.8%. That shouldn’t be enough to throw off any of the fast men and we are likely to get a weak break to go clear and UAE can take a back seat as the sprint teams chase it down.
STAGE 5 TACTICS
The sprint teams will just make sure that no-one who is a threat to stay away and win the stage gets into the break and they will each put riders on the front to make sure that the break stays within touching distance. We will then get a frantic run into the finish and hopefully stay accident free as the fastest men show off their skills.
