The 2024 Tour de France continues on Monday with Stage 3 and the sprinters should finally have their day. The stage is 230.8km long and starts in Plaisance and ends in Turin.
Stage 2 Wrap
Stage 2 was another that belonged to the bookmakers as the break succeeded for the 2nd time in a row. The break consisted of riders well out of Yellow Jersey contention and despite a couple of scares they ended up staying out in front to contest the stage.
Kevin Vauquelin attacked on the final climb riding away to win by 36 seconds from Jonas Abrahamsen who was involved in the break for a 2nd consecutive day and now wears the Polka Dot and Green Jerseys.
Pogacar attacked the other contenders up the final climb but Vingegaard was straight on his wheel and of the big contenders it was only Roglic who lost 21 second.
Jersey Update
Pogacar is in Yellow with 3 riders on the same time as him.
There has been some changes in the betting with Pogacar drifting to 9/10 and Vingegaard in to 11/10. Evenepoel is now 3rd favourite at 11/1 with Roglic out to 22/1.
The King of the Mountains betting is stable with Pogacar the 3/1 favourite and Phillipsen is the 4/7 favourite for Green.

STAGE 3 ROUTE
After a hectic start to the 2024 tour the riders are faced with a long but mainly flat stage.
There are a couple of short Cat 4 climbs in the 2nd half but they are not steep enough or far enough out to make shell any of the sprinters.
This is a stage where you might want to catch the start to see if there is a battle for the break (I suspect not) and then return to the TV for the last hour.
STAGE 3 TACTICS
Everybody knows that after a couple of tough days the sprinters will want this one. I imagine a weak break of 3-4 riders will go clear and get reeled in for our 1st bunch sprint of the Tour.

PREDICTION
The Tour has started with 2 massive upsets but Stage 3 should be more predictable and I cannot look past favourite Philipsen who should be given a perfect lead out by the World Champion Mathieu Van der Poel.
