Stage 20, the last mountain stage of this year’s Tour de France is 132.8 kilometres in length and starts in Nice and finishes in The Col de La Couillole.
Stage 19 Wrap
The 17/20 favourite, Tadej Pogacar stamped his authority on this Tour de France once and for all when he closed a 3 minute gap on the breakaway single handedly to win the stage ahead of Visma Lease’s Jorgenson who came agonisingly close to winning it. There were solid rides from the break from Carapaz who now takes over the King of the Mountain Jersey and Simon Yates, but no one had any answer to the Yellow Jersey storming through the field.
Jersey Update
Pogacar now leads Vingegaard by over 5 minutes and the only other rider within 10 minutes is Evenepoel in 3rd.
There was no change to the top of the Green Jersey classification which while mathematically is still alive is essentially over as long as Girmay stays upright.
The King of the Mountains is now firmly under the control of Carapaz who holds a 14 point lead over Pogacar and is the 1/20 favourite to wear Polka Dots into Nice.

STAGE 20 ROUTE
The stage is short but with plenty of climbing crammed into it. The stage has a few km of flat before the riders get thrown into a Cat 2 climb which is preceded by a tough looking unranked climb. It is then up and down over a pair of Cat 1 climbs before the final climb the Col de La Couillolo takes riders to the finish with a demanding 15.7km at an average of 7.1%.
STAGE 20 TACTICS
Pogacar said in his post stage interview they won’t chase the break and while there is the possibility others might it looks positive for the break and we should get a big battle on the opening climb. There are also some classification battles further down that should be of interest including Evenepoel and Vingegaard for 2nd. The latter looks in control but if he cracks then Evenepoel can reach the 2nd step of the podium.
