Stage 17 of the Tour de France is a mountain stage and is 177.8 in length starting from Saint-Paul-Trois-Châteaux and finishing in SuperDévoluy.
Stage 16 Wrap
The majority of Stage 16 turned out to be pretty boring as the wind never got up to the levels that would have sparked cross-wind action and some splits in the peloton. It was another stage without a serious breakaway and in the end it was favourite, Philipsen who sprinted to victory ahead of Bauhaus and Kristoff.
The big news was the crash in the final kilometres of Green Jersey, Biniam Girmay and with Philipsen winning the stage, the Green Jersey race is now very much on, assuming of course that Girmay is okay to continue.
Jersey Updates
No change to the Yellow Jersey Classification and Pogacar remains a 1/12 favourite ahead of Vingegaard at 8/1.
The Green Jersey race, as mentioned above, has hotted up although if Girmay is healthy he should be able to hang on to his lead and neither him or Philipsen are expected to score big points in any finishes from here on out. It will all come down to the intermediate sprinting and Girmay is out to 4/10 with Philipsen 9/4.
There is also no change from the King of the Mountains where Pogacar still leads by 19 points from Vingegaard and is the 4/10 favourite to win the Polka Dot Jersey.

STAGE 17 ROUTE
The starts of the stage is fairly easy and the intermediate sprint takes place after 114km. The riders then tackle a Cat 2 climb, followed by a Cat 1 before ending on a Cat 3. The climbs are not long but there are some steep gradients.
STAGE 17 TACTICS
Teams and riders are running out of time and I expect a battle to get into the break with a large break eventually getting clear with multiple riders from certain teams.
Whether or not the break will be caught will depend on whether UAE want to set the stage up for Pogacar who is well suited.

PREDICTION
UAE will ride Tempo allowing the break to get clear and while we will get sone General Classification action the break will hopefully contest the finish.
I am going for 2 of the stronger riders who have featured in numerous breaks.
