Stage 15 of the Tour de France takes place on Sunday which is also Bastille Day. It is a gruelling mountain stage and riders take off from Loudenvielle with the finishing line in Plateau de Beille 197.7 kilometres away.
Stage 14 Wrap
I thought the break might get some freedom in stage 14 but UAE and Pogacar had other ideas. It became clear early on they were looking to control the break and halfway up the final climb it was only Ben Healy that dangled in front of them. UAE were setting the pace wen Yates attacked and it was quickly clear his target wasn’t the stage but that he was expecting an attack from his leader. It came and Yates took the wind for a while before Pogacar went solo eventually winning by 39 seconds from Vingegaard with Evenepoel over a minute back in 3rd.
Jersey Update
Vingegaard is up into 2nd but 1:57 behind Yellow Jersey Pogacar who is back into 1/3 favourite with Vingegaard on offer at 5/2.
There was little change in the Green Jersey classification and Girmay leads Philipsen by 76 points and is 1/10 to ear it to Nice.
Pogacar leads the King of the Mountains by 13 points from Vingegaard and the pair are 2/1 and 3/1 respectively

STAGE 15 ROUTE
The stage kicks off with a Cat 1 climb and this should ensure a break of strong climbers. There are 2 more Cat 1 climbs in the 1st half of the race and then in the 2nd half riders tackle the Col d’Agnes which measures 10km at 8.2%. Finally the riders tackle the Out of Categorie Plateau De Beille a massive 15.8km climb at just under 8%.
STAGE 15 TACTICS
A strong break will go clear and I would not be surprised if UAE and perhaps even Visma have a rider in it. Whether the break gets a stage winning gap will depend on UAE and their willingness to chase it down.
This is a longer stage and I think they will ride defensively so will be looking for a winner from the break.
