Serie A Weekend Betting Preview, 27-28 September
Week 5 of Serie A kicks off this weekend, and we’re focusing on three fixtures that could offer early-season insights into the shape of the table. Here’s a closer look at each game, along with my suggested betting plays.
In the latest title market, Napoli remain clear favourites at 1/1, with Inter Milan next at 7/2. Juventus and AC Milan are now level at 6/1, while Roma is priced at 15/2, the rest of the field sits at 50/1 or higher.

SATURDAY
JUVENTUS v ATALANTA – Click here to bet
Juventus are back in Turin this weekend for a heavyweight clash against Atalanta, looking to return to winning ways after being held 1-1 by Verona in their last outing. Igor Tudor’s side remain unbeaten, sitting 2nd in the table with 10 points from four matches (W3 D1), but the draw served as a reminder that points can slip away if focus wavers. The Bianconeri will expect their forwards to fire against a disciplined Atalanta defence, and victory would keep them firmly on the heels of early leaders Napoli. With home advantage, Juventus enter as slight favourites, though they will know Atalanta pose a serious threat to their unbeaten record.
Atalanta travel to Turin this weekend for what could be their sternest test of the season so far, taking on a Juventus side unbeaten in Serie A. Ivan Juric’s men come into the contest on the back of an emphatic 3-0 victory away to Torino, extending their run to four matches without defeat. Currently sitting 5th in the table with 8 points from four games (W2 D2), Atalanta’s balance between attack and defence has been impressive, having netted nine in total while conceding three. An away win would not only underline their top-four credentials but also send a strong signal that Atalanta are capable of competing with the league’s elite once again.
Head-to-Head
Last season, Atalanta managed to get the better of Juventus by claiming four of a possible six points in the league, drawing 1-1 at home before producing an impressive 4-0 win in this fixture in Turin.
Betting
Juventus 9/10
Draw 26/10
Atalanta 16/5
Verdict
This clash is expected to be tighter than last season’s encounters between these two. Juventus have home advantage and remain unbeaten, but Atalanta have impressed on the road. I like the hosts to avoid defeat, with three goals or fewer to feature in Turin.
Suggested Bet: Double Chance and Total – Juventus/Draw and Under 3.5 at 13/20
CAGLIARI v INTER MILAN – Click here to bet
Cagliari return to Sardinia on Saturday evening where they host Inter Milan fresh off a morale-boosting 2-1 away win at Lecce. Fabio Pisacane’s side have taken seven points from their opening four fixtures (W2 D1 L1), a steady return that has them sitting 7th in the table just outside the European places. The Rossoblù will look to use their home advantage to make life difficult for an inconsistent Inter, though they know history is against them as Cagliari have not beaten the Nerazzurri in league play since 2019. A positive result here would further strengthen their strong start and show they can trouble the division’s giants.
Inter Milan return to the road on Saturday evening with a trip to the Unipol Domus to face Cagliari, hoping for a stronger showing than in their last away outing. Cristian Chivu’s men have made a stuttering start to the new campaign, sitting 10th in the table with six points from four matches (W2 L2). The pressure is already mounting on both players and manager, but the Nerazzurri eased some of it last weekend with a 2-1 victory over Sassuolo at San Siro, avoiding what would have been a third straight league defeat. Two wins and two losses from their opening fixtures hardly reflects Inter’s usual standards, yet they can take confidence from their dominant record in this fixture, having beaten Cagliari in seven of their last eight meetings.
Head-to-Head
Inter Milan secured a league double over Cagliari last season, registering a 3-0 win in their away fixture followed by a 3-1 victory at home in the reverse encounter. The Nerazzurri remain unbeaten in eleven consecutive matches against Cagliari in all competitions, winning nine and drawing two during that stretch.
Betting
Cagliari 9/2
Draw 16/5
Inter Milan 5/8
Verdict
Inter Milan appear to be in a transition phase without Inzaghi at the helm, and there are signs of inconsistency early in the season. That said, their quality and experience should still prevail against Cagliari. Expect an open game, but the Nerazzurri are likely to take the points.
Suggested Bet: Full Time Result – Inter Milan at 5/8
SUNDAY
AC MILAN v NAPOLI – Click here to bet
AC Milan prepare for a massive home fixture at San Siro this weekend as they welcome table-topping Napoli. Massimiliano Allegri’s side have collected nine points from their opening four games and currently sit 3rd in the standings (W3 L1), most recently cruising to a 3-0 victory at Udinese where Christian Pulisic stole the show with a two-goal contribution as well as an assist on the day. Confidence will be high, but Milan know they will need to be at their very best if they are to halt Napoli’s perfect start. A win would not only tighten the gap at the top but also send a powerful message about Milan’s own Scudetto ambitions.
Napoli face their biggest test yet in defence of their perfect record as they head to San Siro to meet AC Milan on Sunday. Antonio Conte’s team have been relentless so far, four wins from four ensuring they sit top of the Serie A table with 12 points. Their most recent success came in a 3-2 thriller against Pisa, a reminder both of their attacking quality and of their occasional defensive lapses. With nine goals scored already, Napoli have the firepower to trouble anyone on their day, but a trip to Milan will demand a sharper defensive display. Victory would make it five from five and reinforce their status as early-season pace-setters in their bid to claim the title for the second season running.
Head-to-Head
Napoli secured a league double over AC Milan last season, winning 2-0 at the San Siro before following up with a 2-1 triumph in Naples in the reverse encounter.
Betting
AC Milan 29/20
Draw 23/10
Napoli 2/1
Verdict
Both sides are in strong attacking form, and this promises to be an entertaining contest. Milan’s home advantage may help them, but Napoli’s consistency makes them tough to beat. Goals from both teams could prove profitable from a betting perspective here.
