Yannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev meet in the Australian Open Men’s Final on Sunday and we take a look at the game from a betting angle.
YANNIK SINNER
Sinner turned in one of the performances of his career when he beat 1st seed, Novak Djokovic, in four sets on Friday. Sinner, the 4th seed took the first 2 sets 6-1 and 6-2 before losing a 3rd set tie-breaker only to take the 4th set 6-3. It is his 3rd victory over the World No. 1 in 4 meetings.
Sinner has been in excellent form all the way through the Tournament and the set that he dropped against Djokovic was the first that he has lost on route to the Final. This will be Sinner’s first appearance in a Grand Slam Final.
DANIIL MEDVEDEV
If Sinner’s route to the Final has been pretty straight forward, the same cannot be said for the 3rd seed, Medvedev who has played no fewer than 3 five setters including his semi-final against 6th seed, Zverev, where he lost the first 2 sets, but came back to win the 3rd and 4th set tie-breakers and win the 5th set 6-3.
His quarter-final against 9th seed, Hurkacz also went to 5 sets with Medvedev winning 6-4 in the 5th and he has only had 1 straight sets victory as he has made his way to the final.
This will be Medvedev’s 3rd Australian Open Final having lost in 2021 and 2022. He has 1 Grand Slam win to his credit in the US Open in 2021.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
These players have met 9 times on tour with Medvedev holding a 6-3 career record edge over Sinner. Digging deeper though Sinner has won the last 3 meetings after losing the first 6 and it is no surprise he goes into this encounter as the big favourite.

Sinner 37/100
Medvedev 9/4
Sinner is, in my opinion, a justifiable short-price favourite. If he plays the way he did against Djokovic, no one would stand in his way and add to that the fact that Medvedev has had such a hard route to the Final.
Medvedev is a courageous player and I can see him putting up a brave fight, but in the end I think Sinner is going to be too strong and will win this in 4 sets.
Suggest Bet: Correct Score 3-1 to Sinner at 27/10
Another option for punters is a games handicap where I fancy Sinner -4.5 games at 9/10, this means he has to win 5 or more games than Medvedev during the course of the match. At this point though I will stick to my Correct Score Play.
