Borussia Dortmund will face familiar rivals Paris Saint-Germain this Wednesday at Signal Iduna Park. Having met in the group stages of this year’s competition, the Black and Reds will look to improve on the home result achieved on that day, knowing that anything less than a lead going to France could significantly hamper their chances of progressing to their first UEFA Champions League final. Having prevailed over Atlético Madrid in the quarter-finals with a 5-4 aggregate score line, and having registered just one defeat in the group stages en route to this point, Dortmund have gone about their business quietly and could prove to be the dark horses of this year’s competition.
On the domestic front, Dortmund currently reside just outside Champions League qualifications, 5 points adrift of 4th-placed Leipzig and enter this crucial 1st leg tie off the back of a 4-1 drubbing away to Leipzig over the weekend, failing to win in their last two league appearances. This will only emphasize the importance of their current campaign given there are no guarantees they will qualify for Champions League next season based on recent Bundesliga results.
Dortmund have averaged 2 goals per game at home in Europe this season with over 2.5 goals arriving in 60% of those games (3 out of 5)
It has been a strange campaign for Paris Saint-Germain in this year’s Champions League competition. Finishing as runners-up in the group stages, they had to rely on other teams to falter after registering just one point away from home in Group F. The Parisians progressed to the semi-finals, surprising many after losing 3-2 at home in the first leg against Barcelona. Trailing in the 12th minute of the second leg meant that PSG were now 4-2 down, requiring a miracle to progress. That moment arrived in the 29th minute when Barcelona’s Ronald Araújo’s reckless challenge resulted in a straight red card, offering the visitors a lifeline which they duly obliged by recording an impressive 4-1 comeback, resulting in a 6-4 aggregate triumph overall.
With Lady Luck smiling on the French club in Europe, PSG required very little of that on the domestic front by securing their 12th Ligue 1 title over the weekend with a 3-3 draw at home against Le Havre. With three games left to spare in the league, this allows the Parisians to focus on the remainder of this year’s Champions League campaign.
Paris Saint-Germain have averaged 1.8 goals per game away from home in Europe this season with over 2.5 goals arriving in 80% of those games (4 out of 5)
Head-to-Head
This fixture resulted in a 1-1 draw in the Group stages of this year’s Champions league campaign with PSG winning 2-0 at home in the reverse leg.

Verdict
This should be an epic encounter between two sides that are unlikely to hold back. PSG had the luxury of resting Mbappé for most of this weekend’s game in preparation for this crucial encounter. With him set to leave at the end of the season, he could play a crucial role if they are to progress over the two legs. With both teams involved in high-scoring matches recently, a chance is taken on goals to deliver, knowing that the hosts will be desperate for a lead of some sort when visiting Paris next week.
Suggested Bet: Totals and Both Teams to score, Over 2.5 and yes at 7/10
