PSL Saturday Betting Preview, 20 September
Three fixtures highlight the Premiership action on Saturday the 20th of September. AmaZulu host Orlando Pirates in Durban, Sekhukhune United look to extend their solid run at home against Golden Arrows, while Mamelodi Sundowns round off the day with a clash against a Durban City side who have been inconsistent on the road. We break down all three encounters below from a betting point of view and focus on the Result and goals markets.
AmaZulu vs Orlando Pirates – click here to bet
AmaZulu currently sit 5th in the standings with 11 points from six games, having picked up three wins, two draws and just a single defeat. They edged Stellenbosch 2–1 midweek at home, showing resilience and attacking intent, and now face a tougher test against one of the league’s traditional giants.
Orlando Pirates are positioned 7th with nine points from five outings. Their season has been slightly inconsistent, but they appear to have stabilised in recent weeks with three consecutive wins and they also captured the MTN8 Cup.
Their most recent action took place at the end of August where they dominated Chippa 3-0 away from home.
Head-to-Head
These sides most recently met in the PSL last season where Pirates won the first match 2-1 in front of a home crowd, the second and most recent match resulted in a 1-1 draw after a well contested 90 minute battle.
Odds: AmaZulu 4.75 | Draw 3.60 | Pirates 1.72
Verdict
AmaZulu have been competitive and will not make this easy, but Pirates’ momentum and sharper frontline give them the edge. I am backing the Buccaneers to keep their winning run alive in a low scoring match and to keep their 4th successive clean sheet.
Bet: Result and Both Teams to Score: Pirates and NO at 2.65

Sekhukhune United vs Golden Arrows – click here to bet
Sekhukhune have made a near-perfect start to the campaign, sitting top of the table with 16 points after six matches, winning five and drawing one. Their most recent result was an impressive 3–1 away win versus Kaizer Chiefs, further underlining their credibility for the title race.
Golden Arrows are 10th with seven points from six games and have battled to find frequent winning form, having won two, drawn one and lost three. They were narrowly beaten 2–1 by Polokwane City during the week, a result that exposed their defensive frailties, particularly against teams with pace and composure in attack.
Head-to-Head
Across the last two seasons in the league these two teams have been competitive with both of them winning two matches each. The last meeting between them was in May where Arrows edged a 3-2 victory at home and prior to that Sekhukhune beat them 2-0 in the reverse leg earlier in the season.
Odds: Sekhukhune 1.66 | Draw 3.25 | Arrows 6.00
Verdict
Sekhukhune are in superb form and look very difficult to stop, while Arrows have struggled for consistency. I am going to back the league leaders to extend their fine campaign without conceding.
Bet: Result and Both Teams to Score – Sekhukhune and No at 2.20
Mamelodi Sundowns vs Durban City – click here to bet
Sundowns remain unbeaten this season and are 2nd on the log with 15 points from seven matches. They were frustrated in a 1–1 draw away to Gallants last time out but remain one of the league’s strongest defensive sides, conceding just twice so far while scoring freely at the other end.
Durban City are 4th with 11 points from six matches and have been one of the early surprise packages having won three, drawn two and lost just one game. They come into this fixture off the back of a solid 2–0 victory over Siwelele on home turf, but this match represents one of their toughest challenges of the season.
Head-to-Head
This will be their first Premiership clash since the 22/23 season with their latest match being held in the Nedbank Cup 23/24 where Sundowns picked up a 2-0 triumph at home.
Odds: Sundowns 1.25 | Draw 5.00 | Durban City 13.00
Verdict
While Durban City have shown promise, Sundown’s depth and quality should prove far too much to handle. I think that the former champions will dominate proceedings and claim a comfortable win at Loftus.
Bet: Result and Totals – Sundowns and Over 2.5 Goals at 2.20
