ORLANDO PIRATES vs POLOKWANE CITY
Orlando Pirates had a solid season in the PSL, performing well on attack and defence. Despite this they could not keep up with Sundowns and in the end, they finished in 2nd after winning 19, drawing 4 and losing 5 of their clashes.
Polokwane City started their league season off on a strong note, winning numerous games early on, however, they struggled to maintain it and as the season progressed, their form declined, which led to them dropping down the table from 3rd into 7th.

Orlando Pirates head into this encounter as the favourites after beating Polokwane City twice in the PSL. The first match was played on Pirates turf and the scoreline was 3-0, they then met in front of a City crowd in a much closer affair where Pirates clinched 1-0.
VERDICT
Orlando Pirates head into the MTN8 Cup with confidence and depth, having won the tournament three years in a row. With their experience and attacking quality, I expect them to take control early and pull away from Polokwane in what could be a high-scoring encounter.
SEKHUKHUNE UNITED vs TS GALAXY
Sekhukhune fought hard throughout their 24/25 season to conclude their campaign with a 4th place finish. This was due to them claiming 13 victories, with 7 draws and 8 defeats. They ended up on 46 points overall, only 2 points behind Stellenbosch.
TS Galaxy had a hard time finding consistency during their PSL run, winning 8 and losing 9 of their matchups with the remaining 11 resulting in a tie. They did do enough though to finish in 5th on the log with their goal difference of 0 separating them from AmaZulu.

These sides faced off twice in the league last season. The first encounter, played at Sekhukhune’s home ground, saw TS Galaxy come away with an impressive 3-1 victory. In the return fixture a few months later, neither team could find a winner, with the match ending in a 1-1 draw.
VERDICT
Sekhukhune have shown greater consistency and balance over the course of the season, and based on current form, I expect them to get the job done here. I’m backing them to win without conceding.

Stellenbosch put in a strong effort throughout the season and secured a 3rd-place finish when the campaign concluded. They finished strongly, winning three of their final matches to edge out Sekhukhune by two points.
AmaZulu showed promise at times but struggled to deliver in key moments, ultimately ending the season in 6th place. They recorded 10 wins, 5 draws, and 13 losses, finishing on 35 points with a goal difference of -5.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS vs RICHARDS BAY
Mamelodi Sundowns enjoyed a near-flawless campaign en route to the 2024/25 PSL title, asserting their dominance from the outset and rarely being troubled along the way. They won an impressive 24 of their 28 matches, drawing just once and losing only three. This commanding run saw them finish 12 points clear at the top of the table.
Richards Bay, on the other hand, staged an impressive late-season surge, steadily climbing the standings to secure 8th place. While their overall stats may not stand out, their resilience and form in the final stretch got them over the line—and they’ll now be aiming to pull off a major upset this weekend.
