Liverpool host Barnsley in the 3rd round of the FA Cup on Monday night. We take a look at some of the options available to punters and offer up a few bets for consideration.
We have an action packed weekend of football behind us and one of the highlights was Brighton beating Manchester United on the road to progress to the 4th Round. Arsenal showed their depth with a comfortable 4-1 away win at Portsmouth, Wolves found their scoring touch against Shrewsbury winning 6-1 and Manchester City clearly took offence to some Exeter social media posts, showing no mercy and hammering them 10-1.
LIVERPOOL vs BARNSLEY PREVIEW
Liverpool have now gone 10 matches since their last defeat and they have drawn their last three League matches, most recently 0-0 away at Arsenal. That was their second 0-0 draw in their last 3 matches.
Liverpool haven’t done particularly well in the FA Cup in the last three years having two 4th Round exits and also a quarter-final exit to Manchester United. They were the 2021/2022 Champions where they beat Chelsea in the Final and that broke a 16 year drought without a FA Cup Final victory.
Barnsley have already had FA Cup action this season beating York 3-2 at home for a spot in the 2nd Round where they defeated Peterborough 1-0 on the road.
Barnsley haven’t been on a great run and they have only taken 1 point from the last 12 they have played for in League One and that point came last time out in a 1-1 draw away at Wigan. They currently sit 17th in the League One table just two points clear of the relegation zone.
Barnsley’s claim to fame is they won the FA Cup back in 1912 and this despite the fact that they played in the Second Division at the time.
Head-to-Head
These sides last met in the FA Cup in 2008 when Barnsley beat Liverpool 2-1 on the road. The previous meetings in the English Premier League in the late 90’s was the away team winning on each occasion.

Verdict
This is the sort of fixture which might be dangerous for Liverpool who have not had the greatest of seasons, but the fact is that Barnsley are really battling themselves and it is difficult to see them giving Liverpool any problems.
Here are a few betting angles I have found for the game.
- Asian Handicap, Liverpool -2.5 at 1.95, for this bet to arrive Liverpool need to win by 3 goals or more.
- Match Result and Both Teams to Score, Liverpool and No at 1.98, in order to collect on this bet Liverpool need to win the game without conceding.
- Correct Score Liverpool 3 Barnsley 0 at 8.50.
- Liverpool Total Corners over 7.5 at 1.91
I think Barnsley will struggle to break down the Liverpool centre and the bet I am settling on is Match result and Both teams to score, Liverpool and NO, at 1.98
