Nigeria arrive in the final in superb form, going unbeaten across their last seven qualifiers and showing a sharp blend of attacking flair and defensive control. They swept aside Gabon 4-1 in the semi-final with a dominant extra time display having conceded an 89th minute equaliser, a month after dismantling Benin 4-0 in their final group match.
Their run also included a tough 2-1 away win over Lesotho and a disciplined 1-1 draw against an in-form South African outfit, while a narrow 1-0 victory over Rwanda showed they can grind out results when needed. With 12 goals scored in their last five matches while conceding 3, they carry huge momentum into this final.
D.R. Congo can combine defensive discipline with clinical counter-attacking play. Their 1-0 injury time semi-final win over Cameroon underlined their resilience although it ruined our 90 minute draw bet.
They previously edged Sudan 1-0, beat Togo 1-0 away, and hammered South Sudan 4-1, highlighting a consistently strong defensive structure.
Their only struggle in their last five clashes was a narrow 3-2 defeat to Senegal, but overall they arrive confident and will fancy their chances of causing an upset.
Head-to-Head:
These sides last met in 2018, where the match ended 1-1 in an international friendly. Historically, Nigeria hold the edge with four wins from six meetings, but with no meetings in recent years, this final promises to be an unpredictable matchup.
Betting:
Nigeria 2.20
Draw 2.70
D.R. Congo 4.25
Verdict:
Nigeria have shown more attacking variety and squad depth throughout the qualifiers, while D.R. Congo have proven extremely difficult to get past on defence. Both sides enter this game on the back of solid performances and this will be a tense affair. I think Nigeria edge a low scoring encounter.
Bet: Nigeria and Under 2.5 Goals at 4.25
