International football continues this weekend as Bafana Bafana host Zambia at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in a Southern African derby. Though not part of World Cup qualifying, both teams will be eager to perform and we look at the game with an eye on the betting.
South Africa v Zambia – click here to bet
Bafana come into this friendly on a high after securing qualification for the 2026 World Cup, their first appearance since hosting the tournament in 2010.
South Africa are unbeaten in nine matches, including a dominant 3-0 win over Rwanda in their latest World Cup Qualifiers match, as well as a 3-0 victory over Lesotho in September, while holding Nigeria 1-1 and Zimbabwe 0-0 in competitive fixtures.
This match provides an opportunity to give minutes to fringe players while maintaining momentum heading into next year’s preparations.
Zambia enter this friendly looking to rebuild momentum after a difficult recent spell. They’ve lost three of their last four matches, falling to 1-0 to Niger, 2-0 to Morocco and suffered a 1-0 loss against Kenya.
Their only victory came in an away fixture against Tanzania which was held on the 8th of October where they picked up a 1-0 triumph to end a five game long winless streak.
The side will see this fixture as a valuable test for their younger players and a chance to restore confidence after inconsistent results over the past year.
Head-to-Head:
The last time these sides met was in the COSAFA Cup 2023 when Zambia beat South Africa 2-1. Prior to that they met in 2021 where they drew 0-0 a match where South Africa were priced as favourites.
Betting:
South Africa 2.00
Draw 3.40
Zambia 3.75
Verdict:
Even though this is a friendly, South Africa’s form and home advantage make them favourites. Zambia will no doubt give their all but may struggle to contain Bafana’s attacking rhythm. With the hosts already building toward their World Cup campaign, they should have too much quality on the day as players look to impress the coach.
Bet: South Africa win at 2.00
I think we could get goals in this one and if you are looking for a bigger price how about South Africa to win and over 2.5 goals at 3.50.
