Everton v West Ham Betting Preview, Monday 29 September
Monday Night Football wraps up Matchday 6 in the Premier League with an intriguing clash between two sides eager for momentum. Everton are looking to end a three-game winless streak across all competitions, while West Ham arrive with a fresh start under new manager Nuno Espírito Santo. This will be his first game in charge after replacing Graham Potter, and all eyes will be on how the Hammers respond at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Taking a quick look at the outright market before we get into the preview, Liverpool are still the favourites at 27/20, with Arsenal close behind at 15/10. Manchester City come in at 9/2, while Chelsea have drifted out to 33/1. The rest of the pack is well out at 50/1 or longer.

Everton have defied early-season expectations, quietly going about their business despite being tipped as relegation candidates before a ball was kicked. David Moyes has steadied the ship with some shrewd summer signings, and the Toffees currently sit 12th in the table with 7 points from their opening five matches (W2, D1, L2). That said, momentum has stalled and they are winless in their last three across all competitions, including a 2-1 Premier League defeat in the Merseyside derby against Liverpool last weekend and a 2-0 Carabao Cup exit at Wolves in midweek.
The Hill Dickinson Stadium has at least been a source of encouragement. Everton remain unbeaten on their own patch this season with two wins and a draw in all competitions. In league action specifically, they have taken 4 points from a possible 6 (W1, D1), showing more resilience at home than in recent campaigns.
West Ham, meanwhile, start a new era under Nuno Espírito Santo. The Portuguese tactician, known for his pragmatic and organised approach, has been tasked with steadying a side that have endured a nightmare start. Four defeats from their opening five fixtures leave the Hammers 19th with just 3 points, while they’ve conceded 13 goals, the joint-most in the division. Nuno inherits a squad low on confidence but not without talent, and his first priority will be to tighten up defensively and instil belief. The immediate question is whether West Ham can deliver the famed “new manager bounce” in his debut outing.
Head-to-Head
West Ham claimed a 2-1 win over Everton in their most recent meeting, a pre-season clash in Chicago back in July. Last season, though, these two were almost inseparable in the Premier League, sharing the spoils in consecutive draws, 0-0 at the London Stadium and 1-1 at Goodison Park.
Betting
Everton 7/10
Draw 29/10
West Ham 4/1
Verdict
With Nuno Espírito Santo stepping in at West Ham, there’s a fresh twist to this one. Everton look the more settled side, especially at the Hill Dickinson where they’re unbeaten, but a new manager often sparks a reaction and West Ham’s players will be out to impress. I’m not fully sold on Santo getting a winning start, but this feels like the kind of game where both sides can get on the scoresheet.
Suggested Bet: Both Teams to Score – Yes at 19/20
