Leicester City, last season’s Championship winners, will kick off their return to the EPL with a challenging opening match against Spurs at the King Power Stadium this Monday. Despite earning automatic promotion to the Premier League, they are already viewed as one of the relegation favourites this season. Their difficulties have been compounded by the departure of head coach Enzo Maresca to Chelsea, and to further worsen their situation, talismanic midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall also joined the Blues in a €35.40 million deal.
Former Nottingham Forest manager, Steve Cooper, has been appointed as the new head coach of Leicester City. As they prepare for their return to the Premier League, the Foxes are hoping Cooper can guide them to survival in their first season back in the top flight.
Despite adding several new players to their squad, Leicester still appears light and may struggle to maintain their Premier League status. They will likely rely on their experienced campaigners, but with Jamie Vardy and Patson Daka both side-lined, securing an early foothold in the season could prove challenging.
Tottenham Hotspur finished a respectable 5th last season, despite many pundits predicting a decline after Harry Kane’s move to Bayern Munich. Ironically, Spurs seemed to perform significantly better as a team without him. Under the guidance of Ange Postecoglou, they have developed into a solid unit and could potentially improve even further this season.
Tottenham secured maximum points both home and away against all three newly promoted clubs last season. Given their track record of four wins from their last five encounters with Leicester City, they will be confident of replicating that success this coming Monday as they head to King Power Stadium, despite a heavy 4-1 defeat in their most recent visit.
Spurs have strengthened their squad by signing key players, including Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth and former Leeds United central midfielder Archie Gray. With a more balanced team, they could potentially break into the top four, where they will undoubtedly be targeting a Champions League berth.
Head-to-Head
The last time these two teams met was in the 2022/23 season. Leicester won convincingly with a 4-1 victory at home but then suffered a heavy 6-2 defeat to Spurs in the away fixture.
Betting
Leicester City 4/1
Draw 7/2
Tottenham Hotspur 8/13
Prediction
These teams have produced no fewer than 28 goals in their last five head-to-head encounters, averaging 5.6 goals per game. This Monday evening could potentially see another high-scoring match. However, with Leicester looking a bit short upfront, it might be wiser to side with Spurs, given their recent impressive record against newly promoted teams.
