Crystal Palace v Nottingham Forest Preview, Monday 5 May

LONDON, ENGLAND - NOVEMBER 10, 2018: Palace branded corner flag pictured prior to the 2018/19 Premier League game between Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur at Selhurst Park.

Week 35 in the English Premier League concludes on Monday night as Crystal Palace welcome Nottingham Forest to Selhurst Park. With Palace flying high after their FA Cup semi-final success and Forest desperate to reverse their recent slump, both sides will be eager to finish the season strongly. Given what’s at stake, a competitive and entertaining contest could be on the cards. Here are my thoughts, along with a suggested bet for your consideration.

Before we dive into the preview, it’s worth keeping an eye on the outright markets. With Liverpool having already sealed the Premier League title, attention now shifts to the race for European spots and relegation survival. Crystal Palace welcome Nottingham Forest to Selhurst Park on Monday evening as Week 35 of the Premier League comes to a close. The Eagles will look to take full advantage of Forest’s recent dip in form and continue their own impressive run under Oliver Glasner.

Fresh off a commanding 3-0 victory over Aston Villa in the FA Cup semi-final, Palace come into this one with momentum and confidence. That win secured their spot in the final against Manchester City and capped off a strong recent spell. In league action, Palace are unbeaten in their last two outings—first drawing 0-0 at home to Bournemouth before holding Arsenal to a thrilling 2-2 draw at the Emirates. They currently sit 12th in the table with 45 points.

At home, Palace have been consistent. They are unbeaten in their last five appearances at Selhurst Park in all competitions, including four league matches, where they’ve picked up three wins and a draw. Overall, they’ve collected 21 points from 17 home fixtures this season (W5, D6, L6). With momentum on their side and Forest faltering, the Eagles will be confident of putting in another strong performance.

Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, are desperate to stop the rot as they travel to South London for a crucial clash in their pursuit of European qualification. . A 2-0 defeat to a resurgent Brentford side on Thursday evening marked Forest’s fourth loss in five matches across all competitions, though they remain in the top six with 60 points.

Nuno Espírito Santo’s men are clinging to that final European spot with just four games remaining, and with Aston Villa breathing down their necks, the pressure is mounting. Forest’s recent league form—two wins and three defeats from their last five—reflects a side losing momentum at the worst possible time, just as the race for Europe intensifies.

However, Forest have travelled well this season. They hold the third-best away record in the league, having secured 29 points from 17 matches (W9, D2, L6). Their last away outing was a 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur, a result that proves they’re still capable of delivering under pressure.

Recent encounters between Palace and Forest have been evenly matched for the most part, particularly at Selhurst Park where there have been back-to-back draws, underlining how often little have separated the two sides. Forest will be desperate to lean on their strong away form, however, and rediscover their edge as they look to keep their European dream alive.

Head-to-Head

Nottingham Forest secured a 1-0 victory earlier this season at the City Ground, while last season’s meeting at Selhurst Park concluded in a 1-1 draw. These two teams have now drawn in three of their last four encounters. Their last five consecutive matches have all featured two goals or fewer.

Betting

Crystal Palace 12/10

Draw 12/5

Nottingham Forest 12/5

Verdict

Crystal Palace are unbeaten in their last five home matches and come into this fixture with solid momentum, following an impressive FA Cup semi-final win and recent league draws against Bournemouth and Arsenal. Nottingham Forest, by contrast, have lost four of their last five games and continue to struggle for consistency, despite a respectable away record. With three of the last four meetings between these sides ending in draws and each of the last five producing low scores, backing Palace double chance and under 3.5 goals looks a smart play based on current form and head-to-head trends.

Suggested Bet: Double Chance and Total – Crystal Palace/Draw and Under 3.5 at 8/10
