Arsenal host Liverpool in a stand-alone English Premier League fixture on Thursday night in what is the biggest game of the midweek programme. Arsenal currently sit top of the table, six points clear of Manchester City and come into this clash in outstanding form. The Gunners have won five league matches in a row, most recently edging past Bournemouth 3-2 away from home in a thriller.
The side have been ruthless this season, winning nine of their ten home matches, and they boast the league’s best defensive record with just 14 goals conceded.
Liverpool are 4th on the log and have been less convincing of late with rumours flying that the managers days are numbered. They were held to a 2-2 draw away at Fulham last time out and have now drawn two of their last four league games, while winning the other two.
While the Reds remain dangerous going forward, their away form has been patchy. With just four wins from ten matches on the road this season and their away games average 3.5 goals each.

These two sides have played out a number of tight encounters in recent seasons. Earlier this campaign, Liverpool edged Arsenal 1-0 at Anfield, while last season’s league meetings both ended in 2-2 draws. Four of the last five competitive meetings have seen both teams find the back of the net.

Verdict
Arsenal’s home form and current momentum make them deserved favourites, but Liverpool are capable of keeping this competitive. Given the recent head-to-head history and the attacking quality on both sides, I believe goals look likely from both ends.
