Arsenal will host Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday evening, currently in first place, albeit temporarily, knowing that Manchester City has a game in hand with just one point adrift. Fresh off another victory over the weekend, the Gunners continue to impress away from home. Saturday’s 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers marked their sixth consecutive clean sheet on the road, an impressive feat considering Manchester City is included in that list. Tuesday’s clash against the Blues will be another stern test for Mikel Arteta and his squad, knowing that anything less than a win over their London rivals would, in all likelihood, dash all hopes of securing the league title for the first time since 2003/04. At home, Arsenal has been solid; they boast the third-best record as hosts with twelve wins, two draws, and just two defeats thus far.
Arsenal have averaged 2.37 goals per game at home this season, with over 2.5 goals arriving in 68.75% of those encounters (11 out of 16)
Chelsea enter Tuesday’s clash at the Emirates currently 9th on the table. Having crashed out of the FA Cup semi-finals by losing 1-0 to Manchester City over the weekend, the Blues will have to quickly shift their attention to the league just three days later, where they take on London rivals, Arsenal. Away from home, the Blues are currently on an unbeaten run of four consecutive games in the league. While impressive, there will be concerns over the fact that their conversion rate when it comes to maximum points on the road has hit a bit of a blip, having registered three consecutive draws and conceding five in the process. This takes their overall tally to five wins, four draws, and six losses when visiting opposition.
Chelsea have averaged 1.73 goals per game this season away from home, with over 2.5 goals arriving in 73.3% of those encounters (11 out of 15)
Head to Head
The reverse fixture resulted in a 2-2 draw earlier this season with Arsenal winning 3-1 in this fixture last season.
Verdict
At home, Arsenal have been less convincing on the defensive front, having conceded at least one goal in four of their last five encounters in the league. Knowing that Chelsea have found the net in their last twelve consecutive league games on the road, we should expect a feisty encounter between these two in London. That being said, Arsenal’s winning ratio at home has been impressive, whereas Chelsea have been less convincing compared to seasons past. Combining the two scenarios could prove to be profitable, so a chance is taken on the Gunners to bounce back from their last home defeat to Aston Villa with both teams finding the net.
