Charlie Gamble of the Waratahs looks on during the Super Rugby Pacific match between Waratahs and Brumbies at Allianz Stadium on February 24, 2023 in Sydney, Australia

As we enter the final week of the Super Rugby group stages, it is crunch time for teams looking to secure their quarter-final positions. Two matches are set to take place on Friday with the Crusaders hosting  Moana Pasifika, while the Reds will travel to face off against the Waratahs. Let’s take a look at these two matches from a betting perspective.

The Blues are currently the favourites to win the competition, trading at 2.65. The Hurricanes are now the second favourites, trading at 3.13. The bookies have the Chiefs at 3.30 to win the competition.

Crusaders v Moana Pasifika – Click here to bet

The Crusaders are currently sitting 10th on the table. However, if the Force and Fijian Drua lose this weekend and the Crusaders win, they will finish in 8th position, qualifying for the quarter-finals. They have won only 3 of their 13 matches this season. The Crusaders pulled off their best performance of the season last weekend, beating the table leaders, the Blues, 29-27 at home.

Moana Pasifika are sitting 11th on the table after winning 4 of their 13 matches this season. However, their low number of bonus points places them behind the Crusaders. Their most recent result was a 27-12 win over the Waratahs at home last week. However, they lost 32-24 to the Hurricanes away from home the week before.

The two sides last faced each other in May of last year, where the Crusaders comfortably won the match 41-7 away from home. It should be noted that this was a much stronger Crusaders side.

The Crusaders are heavy favourites to win the match and are trading at 1.02, while Moana Pasifika are trading at 18.00. The handicap at the time of writing is Crusaders [-26.5] at 1.95. The Crusaders have had a very poor season, but after their strong performance last weekend, there will be a sense of hope in the squad. I believe that this momentum, coupled with the fact that they are playing at home, will result in a large margin win for the Crusaders.

Suggested Bet: Handicap, Crusaders [-26.5] at 1.95.

Waratahs v Reds – Click here to bet

The Waratahs are sitting at the bottom of the table after a disappointing season in which they have won only 2 of their 13 matches. They have lost their last 5 matches in a row, with the most recent result being a 27-12 loss to Moana Pasifika away from home last weekend.

The Reds are sitting 5th on the table and are preparing for their upcoming quarter-final match. They have won 7 of their 13 matches so far this season and are currently the second strongest Australian side. They hosted the Force last weekend and delivered a thumping win, with the match ending 59-13.

The two sides last met in February when the Reds hosted the fixture and won the game 40-22.

The Reds are favourites to win the match and are trading at 1.30, while the Waratahs are trading at 4.20. The handicap at the time of writing is Reds [-9.5] at 1.85. The Waratahs are playing for nothing more than pride, whereas the Reds will be looking to build momentum going into the quarter-finals. I believe the Reds should be too strong for the Waratahs and should comfortably win the match.

Suggested Bet: Handicap, Reds [-9.5] at 1.85.
